Hi all:

I just received an email from QSL Web Creator.  I received a QSL that can be downloaded, and printed on my own.  The data matches my own data for the contact.  The operator did not upload it to LOTW.  I am assuming that this is worthless, and not valid for ARRL DXCC purposes.  Is this correct?

Thanks

Scott

Unwanted Azimuth Data Added to Logged QSOs

W5ADD@arrl.net

When DXKeeper 16.4.0 was released on 14 Dec 21, Azimuth values started showing up in every logged QSO.

This is undesired behavior because I use wire antennas, and I manually enter az/el data only with EME in order to track noise.

Will this be changed in DXKeeper 16.4.1?

Compacting Spot Database

eddy on5jk

Dave,

Recently SC started "Compacting Spot Database" when we prune manualy the Spot Database.

I have the "Prune hourly" box not checqued.

I have set "prune entries older than" to 0,05 (aprox 1 hour) . So i can prune whenever i want to, not automaticaly.

Now when pruning, often "Compacting Spot Database" starts. Thus loosing a lot of time before i can see Spots again.

Can't you please provide a "switch", so we can select "compacting or not" when pruning manualy?

The compacting Spot Database is very anoying during a contest or any other special Event. (Like the ON75... now)

I know there has been similar questions before.

Thanks and best wishes to you and your family.

Re: Commander stopped working

Commander has worked flawlessly on my 1990's FT-1000MP since I installed the first version of it!!

Yeah, I think "dark mode" should be the job of the OS and/or the brightness control. (Android and iPhones both handle dark-mode at the OS level.)

Found this: https://www.businessinsider.com.au/how-to-turn-on-dark-mode-on-windows-2020-7

+ The directions provided in that article are ineffective with DXLab applications, which were developed years before Microsoft provided the mechanisms to support "application dark mode".

+ LotW's TQSL already added it to its Configuration Data file with the name UVSQ. That's the name specified in the DXKeeper's DefaultSatellites.txt file that will be included with the next version of DXKeeper. That updated file is immediately available here:

Ok since we are discussing the "look" of DXLab, how about a dark mode. JTDX has it. I kind of like it, it is a bit easier on the eyes. Those bright gray windows are bright in the morning

+ Does your monitor not provide a "brightness" control?

It might have looked nice but productivity took a nose dive due to constantly trying to locate frequently used commands that were hidden away. Similar to how the Windows interface has been streamlined, in some cases I would say dumbed down, to cater for the mobile & tablet market.

I am switching out my PC in the shack..I pretty much use it exclusively for radio stuff.  It is a windows 10 machine and my current one is also Windows 10.  I use macrium to regularly backup and image it.
Will DX Labs transfer over in it's entirety including the ARRL certificate?

+ If the new PC is identical to your existing PC  - CPU, motherboard, cache, memory, peripherals - then copying the disk image would likely work. Otherwise, access to the Macrium source code would be required to answer your question.

+ Given how straightforward it is to create and populate a Workspace on your current system (if you haven't already), download and install DXLab apps on your new system, copy the Workspace and copy a few specific files from your current system to your new system, I recommend that approach. Well-worn step-by-step instructions are here:

Update.....the window opened after about 4 minutes, so I assume the theory about Norton interfering with it is correct - although I don't understand why the problem never presented itself before.
Regarding your stellar review of Norton, do you have another product that you recommend?  :)

+ My assessment of Norton ianti-malware includes information from an acquaintance who worked in Norton's development group and shared their software development practices with me, as well as empirical data from reports by DXLab users running Norton anti-malware.

+ Given the potential for liability, I do not recommend anti-malware applications. I can, however state this fact: since I've been submitting DXLab applications to Microsoft Security before releasing them, no user who has subsequently updated his or her Windows Defender virus definitions has reported interference from Windows Defender.
