dxlabs launcher, commander, dxkeeper

Kenneth Waites <kenw817821@...>

I cleaned out windows as I could.  I used task manager and cleaned  applications, and background applic I could find.  Also deleted items in the tray at the bottom of the screen.

I clicked on launcher window, got a message saying unable to launch before application 1 – the first file does not exist.  Then I clicked on commander and keeper, and keeper came up showing the logfile, but missing mode, freq, and start time.

This is a new computer and it seems to key on the dxkeeper to know other parts were present in the past, and try to force their implementation.  All I really want is the log.

Is there a way to just keep the log in a thumbdrive, delete and restart dxkab components, then migrate from the thumb drive?

Commander support for the Yaesu FTDX-10 and FTDX-101

Dave AA6YQ

With much help from Tim NZ8J, I now have a version of Commander that supports the Yaesu FTDX-10. This effort was a monument to
trial-and-error, with more than 25 versions of Commander created by me and evaluated by Tim.

Some of the changes made were to existing code that supports the Yaesu FTDX-101. If you employ Commander with an FTDX-101 and are
willing to check out this new version of Commander to ensure that there are no regressions, please send me email via

aa6yq (at) ambersoft.com

If you have an FTDX-10 and would like to try the new version of Commander, send me email via the address above.

Thanks!

Re: 2nd CAT serial port to feed Flex PGXL frequency data

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below

I've got a Flex PGXL which will accept frequency data from a CAT feed in the specific form of the Kenwood IF command. That's the IF+11digits+semicolon sequence.

+ When configured to use the Kenwood protocol, Commander sends frequency updates using the FA command, not the IF command. The IF command includes all sorts of information besides frequency - like mode, split, and RX/TX status.

I'm trying to drive a physical serial port on my computer that's tied to
the PGXL serial port and feeding the serial port with the 2nd CAT feed.
I'm assuming that commander when pointed to a real serial port has no
problem to work that way (instead of feeding a virtual port).

+ Correct.

By using the very handy MSGS feature in commander it looks like all of
the CAT protocol in commander use the FA command instead.

+ Correct.

So two questions for you if you can...

1. Confirm commander's 2nd CAT serial port will drive a physical serial
port on the PC

+ It can.

2. Can I add somehow an option to use a CAT protocol that would feed the
Kenwood IF response string out to this port?

+ Please post a description of the IF command contents as expected by your amplifier, and I will send you an extended new version of Commander that supports it via the Secondary CAT port.

Re: Setting upDXKEEPER

Something is fouled up.  It seems DXK thinks it is running, but is not.

I display TASK MANAGER I see Commander.  Then I see DX Launcher TWICE.

DX Keeper is not shown at all.

When I display Device Manager Ports,  I see communications port 1, port 3 and port 5.

When I look at the DXLAB Launcher display, it shows commander and Keeper as green, but the DXKeeper never opens.

+ Windows is in a very bad state. As a first step, terminate all applications, and then reboot WIndows.

QSO Audio Recording isn't limited to WinWarbler.  You will need to change it at DXKeeper > Config > Audio Recording Config (bottom line of panel) as well.  I do not know if this change carries over to/from WinWarbler's configuration.

Thanks Joe! I will change that default. I've never used the WinWarbler Audio Recording feature and the name of the folder (DXLabs) wasn't much of a clue as to what its purpose was or where to go to change it. Thanks for the explanation.

This group is a wealth of information. Thanks to all who respond with patience to newbie questions and minor issues like this one.

Ok, I shall check Windows event log, but it seems everything works as before, without any problems.
Thanks for your response!

OK, a little painful but it works. If my scripts are short enough I think I'll use every 2nd or 3rd line and leave empty lines when I experiment with scripts in the future.

+ Each sequence can specify up to 64 instructions; it's unlikely that you or anyone else will ever have to employ all of them.

Re: Bidirectional Rig Control

The debug log data indicates the radio is sending data to Commander roughly every 200ms (4 times in a minute that was observed) which is what the interrogation interval was set for. I believe (but need to verify) that the amp's data buffer is 500 bytes. Do we know how much data was being sent to Commander when it requests frequency updates from the radio?

+ You can use Commander's messages window to count the bytes:

https://www.dxlabsuite.com/commander/Help/MonitoringMessages.htm

+ The question is "how fast can the amp process incoming messages?".

Is it possible that the Acom amp's buffer is being overflowed, such that some data/updates might be lost and the amp thinks it is not seeing data often enough to meet the minimum frequency update every second?

+ Without either documentation or source code for the amp, there is no way to know.

I will still try a shorter interrogation interval. If that is not a solution, would it be better to use the secondary CAT port directly to the amp instead of splitting the CI-V line as it is configured now using the Primary (i.e. would there be less data transferred to the amp from the secondary CAT port)?

+ A lot less data is sent from the Secondary CAT port. If you configure the Secondary CAT port (with no device attached), you can monitor it via Commander's Messages window.

Is there a way to cut/paste multiple lines in a command sequence? I'm looking for an easy way to insert/delete multiple lines without editing the underlying saved text file.

+ "Cut and paste" are limited to one item at a time.

Also, is there a way to delete a sequence from a button? What I do now is to load an "empty" text file.

+ Clearing its Name and setting its first command to <end> is sufficient.

I got the results Dave, thanks. I mentioned previously that I set it to 100ms and I 'believe' I got another CAT error but it took a while. I'll monitor it at 100ms again and then try 75ms, maybe 50ms, to see if that solves it completely. Thanks again for the great support!
