Re: Unstable function for QSL-shortcut

When QSL cards pile up it is convenient to use a keyboard shortcut for each card.
So I tried Ctl-Alt-C.
Sometimes it worked like a brezze, sometimes it did not.
I tried to change to another window and back, and it worked again.
I really can't explain why this happened. Is it caused by an instability in the software?

+ Make certain that mouse cursor focus is in DXKeeper's Main window before you depress the Control key on your keyboard.

I am sure it is a Windows or install problem but wonder why it does not affect any other program. I hope this is a reasonable question.

I also would not be very confident that W support will be much help here. In fact I would bet they incorrectly  blame you. 😊

Since there are no other reports of this and I have never seen such a thing it is extremely unlikely that it has anything to do with your programs.

After a computer crash and a reinstall of DXLabs I have a problem with the size of the main window of all the DXLabs programs.

It is missing the bottom and right side of the window on them all.

No other programs on the computer seem to be effected like this.

This is on a win 10 computer with the latest program for DXLabs.

Shooting in the dark here.  But, it won’t hurt to check Display settings.

Right click an empty spot on your monitor’s desk top.  Select Display settings.  In the pop up that appears check to see you are asking for 100% size . . ., Check to see that your “Display resolution” matches the native resolution of your monitor.  [This will normally be the ‘Recommended’ resolution.]

Next test/check: open Device Manager and check Display Adapters to see if you have the correct driver loaded for your Display Card, or built-in Display Processor.  If you have an add-on display card in your computer but see a generic Microsoft driver listed, you MIGHT have the incorrect driver installed.  Check the display card’s manufacturers web site for downloading a replacement driver.

For USA I thought the guidelines were that there is only one correct frequency for the digital signal to be transmitted on , as such spreading out FT8-style would not be in keeping with those expected practices . Even if it is only over a few hundred Hertz. Additionally , those early guidelines stated only one QSO at a time on each channel . So several stations transmitting CQ in FT8 would not be adhering to the guidelines . I objected so the guidelines at that time , but I am unaware that they have changed . Hence it seems to me that it is not a good idea to use FT8 on that band if in USA.

When I started DXLab this morning, Spot Collector came up with a pop-up with lots of text and Enter your callsign. I couldn't read the text as it was mostly greyed out, but I entered my callsign anyhow.

+ That window is displayed on startup when SpotCollector attempts to retrieve your callsign from the Windows Registry and finds it empty. The text displayed in black font on a gray background is

SpotCollector relies on DXCC, eQSL, LoTW, and USAP databases that are updated at varying frequencies. DXLab's DXView application will notify you when database updates are available, and download them with a mouse click. If you haven't directed the DXLab Launcher to install DXView, consider doing so.

If you do not install DXView, up-to-date databases can be downloaded into SpotCollector's Databases folder from the Auxiliary Files column of the table in http://www.dxlabsuite.com/download.htm#AvailableReleases

(My excuse: I was doing this prior to my first coffee of the day).
When DXLac was all running (all modules except PF enabled) I noticed I was getting no spots.  Checking SC config, I found that all 4 spot sources had reset to the defaults and the auto boxes were not checked.
While it was relatively simple to retrieve and enter the credentials of my usual spot sources, I'd prefer not to have to repeat this.
Any clues as to why this happened?

+ Either you inadvertently cleared the the "Operator Callsign" setting in the upper right corner of the Configuration window's General tab, or Windows suffered a lost of information from the Windows Registry; check the Windows Event Logs to see if a hardware or software failure was recorded around the time this occurred.

The Spot collector email alarm is very helpful. When SC is restarted, for example after an update of databases, the alarm is no longer enabled, the enable box is no longer checked. Does anyone else experience this behavior? What can be done to keep the box checked?

+ If you're referring to the Enable box in the upper-left corner of the Configuration window's "Email alarm" tab, that setting is saved at shutdown and restored at startup like every other SpotCollector setting. SpotCollector only disables this option if an attempt to send a message fails, and the following retry also fails; when that happens, the words "Email notification disabled" appear in the Main window's title bar.

Spotting via DXKeeper

Tony Dixon G4CJC

Hi Dave,
Right click on a worked station in DXKeeper gives the options, for example, "Spot G4CJC on 14.081.2 in FT4" or "Spot G4CJC on 14.081.2 in FT4 with notes". Fine, except the "with notes " one does not have "FT4" included. If it could it would make life a little less "Doh! forgot to include the mode". The spot then goes along with odd socks to odd spot land. as no mode is included. Is this a possibility Dave?

+ One click of the "Update from LoTW" button on the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab will query LoTW for every QSO in the Log Page Display, and update each QSO with the results received. This operation is relatively slow because DXKeeper queries LoTW one logged QSO at a time. Depending upon how many QSOs you will have in the Log Page Display, and how many total QSOs you've uploaded to LoTW, depressing the CTRL key while clicking the "Sync LoTW QSOs" button may be faster, as it directs LoTW to report all accepted QSOs, and then updates the logged QSOs individually based on the results of that report.

+ Either way, I'd wait to initiate the operation before retiring for the evening.
