Spot collector settings reset to defaults on start up

David Aslin

Hi all,
When I started DXLab this morning, Spot Collector came up with a pop-up with lots of text and Enter your callsign. I couldn't read the text as it was mostly greyed out, but I entered my callsign anyhow. (My excuse: I was doing this prior to my first coffee of the day).
When DXLac was all running (all modules except PF enabled) I noticed I was getting no spots.  Checking SC config, I found that all 4 spot sources had reset to the defaults and the auto boxes were not checked.
While it was relatively simple to retrieve and enter the credentials of my usual spot sources, I'd prefer not to have to repeat this.
Any clues as to why this happened?  DXLab and its databases are fully up-to-date and there hasn't been a W10 update on my shack PC for a week or more.

SC email alarm

Stephen Rabinowitz

The Spot collector email alarm is very helpful. When SC is restarted, for example after an update of databases, the alarm is no longer enabled, the enable box is no longer checked. Does anyone else experience this behavior? What can be done to keep the box checked?

Spotting via DXKeeper

Tony Dixon G4CJC

Hi Dave,
Right click on a worked station in DXKeeper gives the options, for example, "Spot G4CJC on 14.081.2 in FT4" or "Spot G4CJC on 14.081.2 in FT4 with notes". Fine, except the "with notes " one does not have "FT4" included. If it could it would make life a little less "Doh! forgot to include the mode". The spot then goes along with odd socks to odd spot land. as no mode is included. Is this a possibility Dave?

Thanks, Dave.  That worked.

But, I then tried “Sync LotW QSLs” and I get error:  Unable to download from LotW:  invalid request

Thanks, Dave.  Is this a one-Q-at-a-time operation?

+ One click of the "Update from LoTW" button on the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab will query LoTW for every QSO in the Log Page Display, and update each QSO with the results received. This operation is relatively slow because DXKeeper queries LoTW one logged QSO at a time. Depending upon how many QSOs you will have in the Log Page Display, and how many total QSOs you've uploaded to LoTW, depressing the CTRL key while clicking the "Sync LoTW QSOs" button may be faster, as it directs LoTW to report all accepted QSOs, and then updates the logged QSOs individually based on the results of that report.

+ Either way, I'd wait to initiate the operation before retiring for the evening.

Hi Dave.

Create a script with these lines for 60m WAS:
delete <ReportsFolder>60m_WAS*.txt
filter Band = '60m'
Report us_states <ReportsFolder>60m_WAS.txt

Create one with these lines for 60m DXCC.

delete <ReportsFolder>60m_DXCC*.txt
filter Band = '60m'
Report DXCC <ReportsFolder>60m_DXCC.txt

Then just run the script from DXK.  They run pretty fast.
I have mine delete the previous report but you can skip that if you wish.

Oh my, I'm sorry! What a thing to leave out. I'm running an IC-7610. I can try to replicate on an IC-7000 tomorrow.

+ Thanks. I can't replicate the reported behavior with either my IC-7800 or IC-7300.

+ So that I can see what's going on, please do the following:

1. On the General tab of Commander's Configuration window, check the "Log Debugging Info" box

2. Terminate Commander

3. Set your IC-7610 mode to DATA-U

4. Start Commander, and wait until its Main window reflects your IC-7610's frequency and mode

5. Using Commander's Main window, change the Mode to RTTY

6. Wait 15 seconds

7. Using Commander's Maing window, change the Mode to Data-U

8. Wait 15 seconds

9. On the General tab of Commander's Configuration window, uncheck the "Log Debugging Info" box

10. Attach the errorlog.txt file from your Commander folder to an email message, and send the message to me via

Hi Dave (NR1DX)

Do you have the DXKeeper Scripts that Dave (AA6YQ) made available for
checking 60m Entities worked and 60m States worked? Makes keeping track of
60m totals very easy....

If you don't have them pop me a mail and I will send them your way....

Was just curious.  I know you your position on ARRL and the band and am not
here to debate it

FT8 has put 60M on the map so to speak .You can work the "equivalent" of
DXCC on 60M FT8 5357 these days in a matter of months (I am at 125 after a
year)  . I have resorted to using an Excel spread sheet to keep track of it.
Something to to do when there are no new ones to work on the other bands, we
have a friendly local competition here on that band.
Most dxpeditions spend some time on 60M by popular demand these days (7Q7RU
was on there last night ..though they didn't work the standard
5357 and were out of "slot" for USA)

Try it you might like it if you work FT8 at all. CW and SSB are largely non
existent though

Keep up the good work

Curious have you personally operated on 60M FT8 on 5357?

+ I have monitored the frequency with WSJT-X once or twice, but not
made any FT8 QSOs on that band. I've made exactly one QSO on 60m - in
SSB back in 2014.

+ Bouvet Island is one of the 4 DXCC entities I have not confirmed in
a digital mode; if a station from Bouvet were QRV 60m FT8 Fox/Hound, I
would not attempt to work it; even if the spot notes said "begging!".

IF the Rebel DX Group do go to Bouvet, they will definitely be operating FT8 – but highly unlikely that they will work 60m!!  Simply not sufficient volume of operators there to make it worthwhile, when they can run either 40m or 80m with massive pileups!!

The Russian Robinson crew in Malawi on the other hand ARE operating 60m FT8 – worked them last night for my #101 on the band…. But Malawi is nowhere near as rare as Bouvet!!

The REALLY rare ones aren’t going to waste time on 60m…

I noticed this apparent misbehavior recently thought it would be good to write it up. I love DX Lab Suite so much, thank you Dave!

Summary:
Commander fails to set mode when selected in mode panel following mode change made from radio.

Replication/Explanation:
Change mode from DATA-U1 to RTTY (To tune amplifier)

"Data-U1" looks like a typographical error. What mode is the radio in?

Observe that Commander mode panel updates to reflect mode change to RTTY
Attempt to set mode to Data-Uw from commander mode panel.

"Data-Uw" looks like a typographical error. What mode are you selecting in Commander's Main window?

Observe that Commander mode panel updates to indicate mode change to USB-D1
Mode does not change on radio.

Workaround:
Change to any other mode from Commander mode panel, then change to USB-D1 is successful.

Note: I was unable to replicate this with other mode combinations.
+ What make and model radio is Commander controlling?

The first I have seen this.   Commander is talking to the IC-7610 and it knows frequency, mode, etc.  But when I go to log in DXK, I enter the call and hit Tab, but it uses what was already there and not the information from Commander.
I'm not sure what to look for.   DXK does get the correct information from JTAlert.

+ Are you logging QSOs via the Capture window, or via the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab? If the latter, check the "Optimize for realtime QSO entry" box in the "Main Log QSOs options" panel on the Configuration window's General tab.

+ DXKeeper will generate a progress report for DXCC on 60m: filter the Log Page Display with

Band='60m'

+ and then click the Progress button in the "DXCC, Challenge, and TopList" panel on the Main window's "Check Progress" tab; the "Mixed" stats will show your 60m accomplishments. You can create a script that performs both the filtering and progress report generation steps.

+ New DXCC Challenge counters are few and far between, so while waiting for an F2 opening on 6m (2023, maybe?), my informal objective is to confirm all DXCC entities in FT8.
