Apparent mode change misbehavior with Commander

Jon Gefaell

Edited

I noticed this apparent misbehavior recently thought it would be good to write it up. I love DX Lab Suite so much, thank you Dave!

Summary:
Commander fails to set mode when selected in mode panel following mode change made from radio.

Replication/Explanation:
Change mode from DATA-U1 to RTTY (To tune amplifier)
Observe that Commander mode panel updates to reflect mode change to RTTY
Attempt to set mode to Data-Uw from commander mode panel.
Observe that Commander mode panel updates to indicate mode change to USB-D1
Mode does not change on radio.

Workaround:
Change to any other mode from Commander mode panel, then change to USB-D1 is successful.

Note: I was unable to replicate this with other mode combinations.

That was it.  I have no idea how it became unselected.

The first I have seen this.   Commander is talking to the IC-7610 and it knows frequency, mode, etc.  But when I go to log in DXK, I enter the call and hit Tab, but it uses what was already there and not the information from Commander.
I'm not sure what to look for.   DXK does get the correct information from JTAlert.

+ Are you logging QSOs via the Capture window, or via the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab? If the latter, check the "Optimize for realtime QSO entry" box in the "Main Log QSOs options" panel on the Configuration window's General tab.

FT8 has put 60M on the map so to speak .You can work the "equivalent" of DXCC on 60M FT8 5357 these days in a matter of months (I am at 125 after a year)  . I have resorted to using an Excel spread sheet to keep track of it. Something to to do when there are no new ones to work on the other bands, we have a friendly local competition here on that band. Most dxpeditions spend some time on 60M by popular demand these days (7Q7RU was on there last night ..though they didn't work the standard 5357 and were out of "slot" for USA)

Try it you might like it if you work FT8 at all. CW and SSB are largely non existent though

Keep up the good work

+ DXKeeper will generate a progress report for DXCC on 60m: filter the Log Page Display with

Band='60m'

+ and then click the Progress button in the "DXCC, Challenge, and TopList" panel on the Main window's "Check Progress" tab; the "Mixed" stats will show your 60m accomplishments. You can create a script that performs both the filtering and progress report generation steps.

+ New DXCC Challenge counters are few and far between, so while waiting for an F2 opening on 6m (2023, maybe?), my informal objective is to confirm all DXCC entities in FT8.

Curious have you personally operated on 60M FT8 on 5357?

+ I have monitored the frequency with WSJT-X once or twice, but not made any FT8 QSOs on that band. I've made exactly one QSO on 60m - in SSB back in 2014.

+ Bouvet Island is one of the 4 DXCC entities I have not confirmed in a digital mode; if a station from Bouvet were QRV 60m FT8 Fox/Hound, I would not attempt to work it; even if the spot notes said "begging!".

+ There is no realtime award tracking for DXCC entities on 60m because the ARRL DXCC award does not count QSOs made on 60m. The rationale for this: the band is too small to support DXing.

Re: Marking QSOs Uploaded to LOTW

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below
Thanks, Dave.  Is this a one-Q-at-a-time operation?

+ One click of the "Update from LoTW" button on the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab will query LoTW for every QSO in the Log Page Display, and update each QSO with the results received. This operation is relatively slow because DXKeeper queries LoTW one logged QSO at a time. Depending upon how many QSOs you will have in the Log Page Display, and how many total QSOs you've uploaded to LoTW, depressing the CTRL key while clicking the "Sync LoTW QSOs" button may be faster, as it directs LoTW to report all accepted QSOs, and then updates the logged QSOs individually based on the results of that report.

+ Either way, I'd wait to initiate the operation before retiring for the evening.

+ My advice is to select those QSOs in the Log Page DIsplay, and then on the Main window's QSL tab,

1. set the "QSL Via" panel to LoTW

2. click the "Update from LoTW" button

+ This will take longer to run than using the "Advanced Sorts, Filters, and Modifiers" window's "Modify QSOs" panel to 'U', but will produce a more accurate result.

I did the Export ADIF for LoTW when uploading to a service in the belief that this was just a formatting thing, not an actual flag-modifying action.

+ The QSO items modified by the "Export ADIF for LoTW" operation are described here

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/Export.htm#Exporting%20to%20LotW>

+ This operation is provided for new users who have large numbers of QSOs to initially upload to LoTW. In this usage scenario, employing the "Add Requested" and "Upload to LoTW" operations would be significantly slower.

Yesterday I, by accident, found that I had over 8,000 QSO marked as LOTW Sent="U". QSO that I know have previously been correctly synchronized to "Y" with LOTW.

Looking closer at them I found that they had all been set to "U" at one of two distinct dates. The most recent one yesterday.
After a quite long-winded synchronization they are now back to "Y" but of course with a date often much later than the confirmation.

I have gone back looking at my backups but can only find that at two dates (September 28 and November 16 this year) a lot of QSO (going back to June 2019) have been modified to LOTW Sent="U".

I do not recall doing anything special these two dates. No import or other mass operation. At the September date I didn't even log any QSO.

Is there some kind of user error that could have this effect?

+ Things that would do that:

1. Using "Add All" to add those QSOs to the QSL Queue, enabling "Permit uploading of QSOs already uploaded to LOTW", and then clicking "Upload to LoTW"

2. Exporting those QSOs with the Options panel on the Main window's "Export QSOs" tab set to "Export ADIF for LoTW"

+ Given that the "LoTW Date Sent" items were also updated, use of the "Modify QSOs" panel or a Script is less likely.

Re: QSL Queue not filtered by myQTHid

+ AA6YQ comments below
In a new base and having imported adif-file I try to Add Requested for LotW after setting filter for one of several myQTHids. The funny trhing is that the QSL Queue is not filtered by myQHTids. It comes with all flavours of myQTHids. I have a log on a different PC, and settings seems do be the same, but filtering QSL queue is not. Cockpit error again?

+ If the "Log Page Display" is filtered when you invoke the "Add Requested" function on the Main window's QSL tab, DXKeeper asks whether you want this filtering removed; click the No button, and only QSOs in (still filtered) Log Page Display will be considered for addition to the QSL Queue. If you instead click the Yes button, the filtering will be removed, and all QSOs in your log will be considered for addition to the QSL Queue.

I run a multi-radio configuration and been searching around in the documentation for some insight as to how to capture in the DXKeeper Log which radio I made a QSO with.

I bounce back & forth between my Orion 2 & TS-890S and would very much like to distinguish which radio I made the QSO with in the Log.

Possible?

I cannot find anything in the documentation ..... Unless I missed it.
