Re: error while downloading Path/File access error; Upgrade aborted

Edited

Dave, to answer your first question, No.
There was an error message "DXLab Launcher 2.1.1 can't access dxlabsuite.com".
That made no sense because I knew I had Launcher as allowed app (probably not using the proper terminology but I'm in unfamiliar territory here).
But there is some good news; Launcher updated, now works and I could update all seven apps.
This happened by my removing Launcher.exe from the "allowed apps" and then putting it back in again.
In regular mode, I can change frequency on the Yaesu and see the change in Commander.

Next problem is updating the databases.
Error message for that is "unable to open DXCC database".
Also seeing a MS-notification "Unauthorized change blocked; Controlled folder access blocked DXView.exe from making changes."

+ If you used DXKeeper's VUCC Submission Generator to identify the QSO submitted for VUCC Credit, then clicking the "Verify Submission" button will update all of those QSOs to reflect their having been granted VUCC award credit:

d%20Processing%20a%20VUCC%20Submission>

I did not. All LOTW, none of that paper stuff.

* You evidently misunderstand, Peter: DXKeeper's VUCC Submission Generator can produce a submission based on LoTW confirmations.

+ Otherwise,

1. filter the Log Page Display with the SQL expression

(Band='6m') and (APP_DXKEEPER_LOTWConfirmation Like '*G*')

2. in the Main window's QSL tab,

2a. set the "QSL Via" panel to LoTW

2b. click the "Update from LoTW" button

+ Notes

a. depending upon the number of QSOs in the Log Page Display after
step 1, step 2.b could take awhile

b. this procedure will only update QSOs confirmed via LoTW; any QSOs
confirmed via QSL card will not be updated to reflect VUCC award
credit

73,
Taking awhile, as advertised. Almost all the "overwrites" are gridsquares off by one character in the 6th position.

* I should have reminded you to appropriately set the "Handling of LoTW QSL detail inconsistencies" panel on the "QSL Configuration" window's LoTW tab before initiating the "Update from LoTW" function.

For example, about to accept an overwrite of EM37ec with EN37ed - too many for this to be a coincidence. If there is a 6-char Maidenhead there, it's because it was pulled from QRZ via Pathfinder OR put there by DXKeeper which insists that a station in, say, EM15 must really be in EM15mm (used to be EM15aa).

* That's false. You can log a QSO with a grid square of EM15. Try it.

Re: Log field day contacts on DXKeeper

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below

My local radio club has us operation from home. I'm fairly new to DXLabs software, would I log field day as I normally do? Is this a contest? how do I log that to count for my club.

+ The rules for Field Day are here:

<http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Field-Day/2020/1_61-2020%20Rules.pdf>

+ These rules state that the objective of Field Day is

"To work as many stations as possible on the 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 Meter HF bands, as well as all bands 50 MHz and above, and in doing so to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. A premium is placed on developing skills to meet the challenges of emergency preparedness as well as to acquaint the general public with the capabilities of Amateur Radio."

+ Section 5 of the above document specifies the "exchange" for each QSO:

"Stations in ARRL / RAC sections will exchange their Field Day operating Class and ARRL / RAC section. Example: a three transmitter Class A station in Connecticut which also has a GOTA station and the extra
VHF station would send "3A CT" on CW or Digital, or "3 Alpha Connecticut" on Phone. DX stations send operating class and the term DX (i.e. 2A DX)."

+ Contesters use an abomination of a format called Cabrillo to report submit results; inexplicably, each contest employs a different Cabrillo template. DXKeeper can export Cabrillo for many contests, but this requires logging the exchange is specified in the large table in

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/Contesting.htm>

+ At minimum, you should set the "Contest ID" selector to ARRL-FIELD-DAY on DXKeeper's Configuration window's Contest tab.

+ This ARRL page indicates that you can submit a Cabrillo log, but without specifying the Cabrillo template to be used:

<https://field-day.arrl.org/fdentry.php>

+ Thus I don't know whether or not DXKeeper can generate Cabrillo for your Field Day QSOs.

+ If it turns out that DXKeeper supports the required Cabrillo Template, then I strongly suggest logging a few test QSOs before the contest and generating a test Cabrillo file from them to be sure that you are logging the exchange correctly.

+ Alternatively, you can log your Field Day QSOs with a contesting application like N1MM, generate Cabrillo from that, export an ADIF file, and import that ADIF file into DXKeeper.

+ Hopefully someone more familiar with Field Day and Contesting will fill in the many blanks left above.

Also, lots of ops move and re-upload ALL their QSOs with their new
location because ... well, I don't know why.

+ When you click the Start button on the "Export QSOs" tab of DXKeeper's

enables you specify the folder into which the generated ADIF file is to

click the Start button on the "Export QSOs" tab of DXKeeper's

Maybe, or maybe not - for example, if you *imported* QSOs since the
last export, it would show the directory containing the file that you
imported from.

Today, for the first time ever, I saw this error when doing DXLab upgrades.

The complete "Upgrade Status" window has this wording...
" downloading

to
C:\HamRadio\DXLab\Launcher\Downloads\Commander1458Update.exe"

Also, MS gives me notifications for the several upgrades (Commander, DXView, etc) I attempted...
"Unauthorized changes blocked;
Controlled folder access blocked DXLauncher..."

But, a day or two ago, I did attempt a new operation for me.
I tried the steps to tell MS-Security (Win10-64-bit) that Commander is safe.
Perhaps I did not fumble/bumble my way thru that properly and caused my own problem.

Additionally, I cannot update the databases.
The screen there "DXView" has error message "unable to open DXCC Database:"

As an after thought, should have I done a "set a recover point" before doing these changes?
Would that have undone that work?
I have not ever done that sort of operation.

+ Please reboot Windows into "Safe Mode with Networking", and then direct the Launcher to upgrade Commander. Does it succeed?

+ If so, then an application that Windows automatically starts when booted normally is responsible; the culprit is almost always an anti-malware application. See

Can I just copy CALL.mdb and re-download DXLab and copy that file to Documents and carry on? or is there a way to register the program on the old drive and do a back-up?

+ Ideally, you have backed up your settings and critical files, and can recover them as described in the above article. Otherwise, be thankful that you can recover your log file from your hard drive. Install the Launcher, and direct the Launcher to install the DXLab applications you use. Mount the surviving hard drive into your new computer, copy your log file to an appropriate drive on your new computer, and direct DXKeeper to open it. If you made custom versions of any databases or files (modes, sub-band definitions, satellites), copy those to your new computer, and configure the relevant DXLab applications to employ them.
