Re: Com port issue

Jim Denneny

Sent reply to ambersoft alongwith errorlog.  Com 21 was port assigned to DXView Rotator Control.  Changed DXView Rotator port to None.  I use PSTRotator AZ app which is assigned to to Com 9.  There are no other open, unassigned Com ports.  Eltima wants $139 for their tool to create a new port. Problem is solved.

Check the "Rotator Control" tab. Uncheck "Enabled" and "Enable at
startup", and set the Serial Port Interface / Port to "None" (assuming
you're not using it).

When I start launch of DXL suites, I am now getting message "Com port 21 is unavailable". I do not have a com port 21 installed on pc. I cannot detect which suite is looking for that port.

+ Instead of starting all of your DXLab applications at once with the Launcher, start them one at a time. That should reveal the source of the error message.

Re: TS-2000 "Tune" Button

I have been using DXLab for a short time now and am quite happy with it's performance. I have downloaded some of the command sequence and slider functions and all are working as advertised.

What I would like is a "Tune" button. I do not use the TS2K internal tuner but use an external HF Auto tuner instead. It would be nice if a sequence button could be programmed to switch mode to CW, drop power to 10 watts, then key the radio for the HF AUTO to go through its tune cycle. Once the tuner is happy, the operator can then click the button to unkey the radio. To me it sounds simple enough but, I am in no way a programmer and would not have any idea where to begin to try and program something like this. In fact, I'm not sure it can even be done.

If anyone has some insight on this, I sure would like some guidance regarding this subject. Many thanks in advance...

+ There are ~20 user-provided command sequences and sliders for the TS-2000 here:

<https://groups.io/g/DXLab/files/Command%20Sequences%20and%20Sliders/Kenwood/TS2000>

+ See

+ I suggest that you start with the sequence that toggles that TS-2000's pre-amp on and off:

<https://groups.io/g/DXLab/files/Command%20Sequences%20and%20Sliders/Kenwood/TS2000/TS2000%20Pre-amp.txt>

+ Examine the documentation for the PA CAT command on page 131 of your TS-2000 Instruction Manual. When you understand, how this command sequence works, review the documentation for the PC CAT command, and alter the sequence to toggle the output power between 100 watts and 10 watts. Then review the CAT documentation for the MD CAT command, and for the RX and TX CAT commands. By gradually adding functionality to your sequence as you understand the available CAT commands, you'll accomplish your objective.

I am not detecting any impacts to DXK, LOTW, Spot Collector etc etc.  I do not know if this is a "false flag" or what.

The cost to purchase the Eltima Virtual Port Installer is $139 - No way!!

In Launcher, for programs AFTER the running of the bulls in Pamplona, one can't set a timer, so to speak.
In the batch file for JTAlert, you could add before the command to run JTAlert the line

TIMEOUT 3

which will pause for between 2 and 3 seconds before running the next command. And try different values for 3 until it is reliable (always runs JTAlert after WSJTx is available)

hi at all,
what is the problem of this:

+ That looks like a failure of the Jet database engine, possibly caused by a hardware failure. I suggest that you check the Windows Event Logs around 2020-04-25 at 05:48:45 UTC.

+ Please place the file Spots.mdb from SpotCollector's Databases folder into a zip archive, attach the zip archive to an email message, and send the message to me via

In a Feb. event, I operated from my Home Station using a 2nd call (Station Call Sign was changed to K1FOC)

And logged ~150 QSO's sequentially over a 2-day period...into my W1EBM Main Log.

I'd like to update LoTW with these K1FOC QSO's.

I tried the following, but hit a roadblock.

DXkeeper QSL tab. Selected QSL Config.

LoTW tab, bottom the page, in the TQSL area.

Tried to change "Station Call sign" from W1EBM to K1FOC, but not allowed.

Do I need to create a K1FOC Station location ?

+ That will work, assuming that you logged the ~150 QSOs with a "station callsign" of K1FOC.

Re: Sorting after a log "sync"

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below

Just curious if I've missed a setting or something "obvious" - but obviously not to me....

Syncing LoTW QSLs and returning to my log page shows the newest confirmations at the bottom of the log display - although I cannot see any logic to the sorting of those confirmations other than "LoTW Date"....but I digress.

+ As described in the reference documentation for the "Sync LoTW QSL" function,

"After logged QSOs have been updated, the Log Page Display is filtered to show only QSOs confirmed via LotW , and sorted in ascending or descending order of LotW date rcvd."

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/QSL.htm#Updating_Logged_QSOs_to_their_Reflect_Acceptance_and_Confirmation_by_LotW>

+ This information is also provided here:

+ The purpose of this action is to make it easy for you to see what new confirmations you have received.

+ To remove this filtering and set the Log Page Display Sort back to "QSO Begin time", depress the CTRL key while click the Filter panel's X button.

Syncing eQSL QSLs and returning to my log page shows all the non-comfirmed Qs on the display, i.e. "eQSL Date" is null, and my latest confirmations are hundreds of rows up the log. An SQL on a button quickly takes care of that, but just curious if that situation is how it's written, or if I've missed some check box?

+ At the completion of the "Sync eQSL QSLs" function, the , the Log Page Display is filtered to show only QSOs confirmed via eQSL , and sorted in ascending or descending order of eQSL date rcvd - for the same reason that the Log Page Display is filtered and sorted after a "Sync LoTW QSLs" operation: so you can easily see your new confirmation.

+ If that's not happening on your system, then

1. on DXKeeper's Configuration window's General tab, check the "Log debugging info" box

2. terminate DXKeeper

3. start DXKeeper

4. invoked the "Sync eQSL QSLs" function, and wait for it to complete the Log Page Display to be filtered and sorted

5. on DXKeeper's Configuration window's General tab, uncheck the "Log debugging info" box

6. attach the errorlog.txt file from you DXKeeper folder to an email message, and send the email message to me via

to get wsjtx going
-----------------------------------
@ECHO OFF

COLOR 0A
CD /D "C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\"
REM -- CD /D "C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\"
Start wsjtx.exe -r K3-HF
EXIT /B 0
--------------------------------

and to get JTAert for WSJTx going
-----------------------------------------------
@ECHO OFF
COLOR 0A
CD /D "C:\Radio\HamApps\JTAlert\"
rem Start C:\Radio\HamApps\JTAlert\JTAlert.exe /wsjtx
Start JTAlert.exe /wsjtx
EXIT /B 0
----------------------------------------------

Note though that "sometimes" JTAlert barfed because IT got executed before WSJTx had come available.

In Launcher, for programs AFTER the running of the bulls in Pamplona, one can't set a timer, so to speak.

anyway ...
I still can't deduce why giving the location of the Launcher executable to JTAlert results in nix.

Especially since I CAN pass the previous Launcher , or the Same I guess, just in a different package/nae (212).

Sorting after a log "sync"

Steve - N3SL

Just curious if I've missed a setting or something "obvious" - but obviously not to me....

Syncing LoTW QSLs and returning to my log page shows the newest confirmations at the bottom of the log display - although I cannot see any logic to the sorting of those confirmations other than "LoTW Date"....but I digress.

Thanks

If you have the time and energy then full new install is the way to go. I avoid it if possible because it is a really REALLY LARGE PITA to get all applications back with all settings. I avoid it like the plague but at times it is needed. It has been a VERY rare occurrence that upgrade in place caused any problems or at least not close to the problem of reinstall of all my applications. MANY cannot even reinstall since they no longer have the needed install disk or serial number or whatever.
If you can afford it and have the space a separate computer just for radio might be the way to go. Then clean install is of course a good idea.

My preferred approach for OS "upgrades" is to install a new drive (SSD, these days - I actually do a mirror across two SSDs for important systems), do a fresh OS install, then install applications, then transfer data from the old drive to the new one (or from a backup copy - or attach network storage). I keep the old drive(s) around for at least a couple of months, in case I discover that I forgot to transfer something, or, if something goes really wrong, I can reinstall the old drive(s) and be back where I started. Drives (especially spinning ones) fail eventually, so it's good to take the opportunity to install new ones.

Making good notes as you install everything makes it easier next time!

I take you are doing an actual upgrade? If possible, I would do a clean install of Windows 10.

1. Treat it as transferring to a new computer using a SafeStorage

2. Deleting the existing DXLab applications.
3. Upgrade
4. Download the DXLab applications.
5. Copy the SafeStorage files to the respective DXLab applications.

Am I missing anything?

Re: Trying to get "Launcher" to run inside JtAlert's own AutoStart section

Jim AF5FH

Another way to do this, I am able to launch JTAlert from DXLab using the following two line JTAlert.bat file.

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\HamApps\JTAlert"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\HamApps\JTAlert\JTAlert.exe" /wsjtx

The first line text after the cd is copied from the "Start in:" of the JTAlert shortcut, Properties, on the desktop
The following line text is copied from the "Target" of the JTAlert shortcut, Properties, on the desktop.

The desktop JTAlert shortcut is created by running the installer for JTAlert.

I call the JTAlert.bat file from the Launcher, Apps Started After DX Labs Apps, and check the boxes for Enabled and Start Minimized.

I have upgraded three computers from Windows-7 to Windows-10.  For all these upgrades I did an upgrade in place.  That is I left all the Windows-7 and other applications alone and just did the Windows-10 upgrade.  Worked like a charm in all the cases I did and it also worked well for several other hams I suggested to do an upgrade in place.  Just be aware it takes several hours to accomplish.

I build my own computers and I have gotten tired of spending a whole day to completely re-install all the utilities and applications I use. DXLabs are the only programs that I’ve installed that has a way to restore all the needed settings.  Most other utilities/Applications don’t have a way to restore their settings on a new computer or wiped disk.
