Commander and FTDX101 ...some wishes and ideas

H & R Geier

Hi,

i am a daily user of dxlab commander.  I like it very much since long time. Today for me it´s the only really usable CAT Program for my FTDX101D

During work, a few wishes came up :

Using my FTDX101 :

 I miss a button to switch control to the SUB receiver instead of the MAIN Receiver in the standards. I know i can add a custom button.

In an ideal world, this could also swap a variable in the custom buttons from main to sub ( 0-1 ).

There we come to the next wish:  More buttons on more space ..ideally freely to distribute so one can reflect the radios layout. With todays modern radios the number of buttons on one screen is not really enough.

( hence a splitting main/sub would take my demands down ) .

Using a radio with a sub receiver it also would be very useful to have a slider that can modify 2 Variables at once,

in my wish AFGain main down, while AFGain SUB up. Sort of a balance slider.

I am happy to supply more details on CAT commads tot he FTDX and/or  beta test.

Re: Yaesu User-Defined Controls

After adding the  main/sub identifier  older Yeasu or even Kenwood Definitions work fine here. I already made a good handful of buttons and i am continuing.

I am fine to help if someone wants a FTDX101 Button definition.

Hello Bill,

in WSJT-X you have to set under "Reporting" UDP as well. And you have to start WSJT-X after SpotCollector is running. Here it works without problems.

Thanks Dave,

I appreciate the additional guidance. Its a bit late for me (later for you!), so I'll take a closer look at in the am.

In the meantime, I just uploaded 12 Command Sequence files that I think will be of value to other users of Commander with the TS-890S, and that are working successfully for me. I have made the file names as clear and intuitive as possible.

I'll work on the Sliders tomorrow!

All the best,

Hey Dave, that's where I started but the 4th line says "When connected to WSJT-X as a spot source".My question is how to get SC connected to WSJT-X? The enable box is checked on the Spot Source page but the 7th button in the Spot source status box is inactive.
Am I missing something?

Trying to catch up on DXCC credits for our 50-year-old club log that we have been updating with ARRL DXCC mixed award but not
getting DXKeeper all in step since a relatively recent set-up (10 years). Working on following the Wiki or user group messages but
maybe not fully sure of all the terms being thrown out. Am playing with a copy of the log on my home PC.

+ Managing DXCC Award Credits is a non-trivial undertaking given the data entry errors and shortcuts taken when DXCC desk personnel
enter data from QSL cards. I suggest that you start by reviewing

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/Progress.htm#Managing%20DXCC%20Credits>

+ Then using this article to guide you through the steps:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/ManageDXCCCredits>

+ If there are terms that you do not understand, please post them here; I will explain them, and then update the documentation to be
more clear about their meaning.

Main original problem is that many credits are "not linked to a QSO" but the QSO needed is "linked, but not to the DXCC credit" so
cannot link it.

+ How did the QSO get linked to the wrong DXCC credit?

Getting closer with:

Unlink all (CTRL - repair)

Autolink cleans up more but opened up the double entries (one is surely the one the QSO was linked to before).

+ What does "opened up the double entries" mean?

I am sure that checking off the duplicate setting will be involved. Need to know which of the example should be linked to a QSO
and then others marked "duplicate"? And if the actual QSO line is not there, as most are, which to link and what to do with the
other.

+ I don't understand the preceding paragraph.

+ Every DXCC credit should be linked to exactly one logged QSO -- the logged QSO whose QSL card or LoTW confirmation was submitted
to the DXCC desk to obtain the credit.

Example only showing YL (abbreviated info shown, DXCC code 145 is YL). 'blank' is an actual empty field. Not sure if tabs will
work well in the post and don't think can paste snippet of screen:

YL 'blank' 0 'blank' 145 1945

YL 'blank' 0 UNKNOWN 145 1945

YL 15M 21.000 PHONE UQ2KAA 1969

In order top to bottom in the "Show Credit" gives me these QSO numbers (added some notes)

+ There's not enough context to understand what the above three lines mean. I suggest that you make a screen shot, attach the screen
shot to an email message, and send the message to me via

aa6yq (at) ambersoft.com

Card=899893037 band & mode listed as "UNKNOWN" on ARRL LoTW

+ That's unfortunately typical for DXCC credits issued "before computerization". It means DXCC credit was granted to the Entity
only. You'll need to enable and utilize "Partial DXCC Credit", as described in

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/Configuration.htm#Partial%20DXCC%20Credit>

Card=436288888 nothing but field headings show on ARRL LoTW. No data of any kind.

+ Nothing can be done about this.

Card=899893035 ARRL LoTW shows same as listed in DXKeeper credit list (all needed data for all awards).

Most of the "DXCC Credits Granted" are paired like the first two items. No actual card data ever tracked at ARRL since
pre-computer. From paper DXCC list before they kept track of all info which was not kept for a mixed award.

So, in summary, for nearly all I have pairs with MODE blank or MODE "UNKNOWN" and callsign is DXCC code number only in both items.
What to do with each? The example above adds one more wrinkle with a card that must have been sent in once to get credit for
individual awards beyond the original MIXED award.

+ Manually link each DXCC Credit to the QSO that was submitted to obtain that credit. When there's ambiguity, reduce the number of
choices by manually linking all of the Credits for which there isn't ambiguity. This often makes it easier to match up the remained
with logged QSOs.

I used to use WinWarbler with CWGet and a small free program that would transfer the actual print of the CW signal I was tune to into the WinWarbler receive window.

+ Applications known to interoperate with DXLab applications are listed here:

Thanks for the instructions. I thought there might be a "button location identifier" in the file that I could modify to point the Command Sequence toward a different specific button. I'
d already begun doing as you suggested. I've made good progress, and will post my results tomorrow. Only surprise so far is with the antenna 1/antenna 2 command; The "PC Control command reference guide" for the TS-890S shows:
AN Antenna Selection Parameters:
P1 (Antenna selection)
1: ANT1
2: ANT2

But following that syntax, as I did successfully with other modifications, does not cause the Command Sequence to take effect. Not sure why.

+ You can use the "Execute CAT Command" panel on Commander's Messages window to issue a specific CAT command so you can determine if it's behaving as expected, or experiment with parameters:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/commander/Help/MonitoringMessages.htm>

+ Don’t forget to proceed Kenwood CAT commands with a single apostrophe (so Commander knows to send them as ASCII) and end them with a semicolon (as required by your transceiver.

+ You may find it convenient to uncheck the Interrogation panel's Continuous box so the received messages display isn't constantly scrolling with frequency reports, mode reports, S-meter readings, and bandwidth reports. Don't forget to restore this setting when you're done experimenting.

You can add the band filter to that as well in order to have it only for certain bands.

CQ='23' AND Band IN ('10','40','80')

How do I move Command Sequences from one button to another? This would just be within the first bank of 12 buttons.

+ In the sequence now associated with the "from" button", click the "Save" button and save the sequence to a file.

+ Then in the sequence associated with eh "to" button, click the Load" button, and load from the file you just saved.

+ Now you have two buttons that invoke the same sequence. You can repurpose the sequence associated with the "to" button by loading another file, or by clearing its commands and replacing them with something else.
