This has to b simple, but not for a simpleton:

How do I "select/filter" SpotCollector to, say, ONLY the Spots for 1 date? Can I filter for a time "later than"?

+ The Spot Database Display on SpotCollector's Main window displays one entry for each active station operating near a particular
frequency in a particular mode. An entry is created by the receipt of a spot. Information from subsequent spots of the entry's
station near the same frequency in the same mode is used to update the existing entry. This is described in more detail here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/CollectingSpots>

+ which I strongly encourage you to review.

+ Filtering the Spot Database Display is described in general here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/SpotDatabaseFilter>

+ Filtering by date or date range requires the use of an SQL expression. This expression will filter the Spot Database Display to
contain only entries created yesterday:

FirstTime between #2019-09-03# and #2019-09-03#

+ (when no time is specified, 0000 is assumed).

+ To filter the Spot Database Display to contain only entries last spotted in September 2019, use this SQL expression:

LastTime > #2019-09-01#

+ For easy-to-type one-off expressions like these examples, you can type them into the textbox in the Filter panel at the bottom of
the Main window, and then strike CTRL-S

+ Complete directions for using SQL Expressions to filter the Spot Database Display, including the ability to associate a
frequently-used filter expression with a button, are here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/spotcollector/Help/SpotDatabase.htm#Filtering%20with%20SQL%20expressions>

Is it possible to enlarge or shorten vertical xtent of SC's window, i.e., Im trying to limit the number of spots on display by
dragging the window UP or DOWN. No matter what I try, spots fill the entire extent of the spot window. What I'd like is lots of
empty space at the bottom & minimal spots displayed above. I have only 1 "entry line", for new spots, at the very bottom.

+ On SpotCollector's Main window, there's a row of panels (WWV, Outgoing spot, Spot source status) along the top, and a row of
panels (Sort, Filter, Color codes) along the bottom. The available space between these two rows of panels is always filled with the
Spot Database Display, sorted and filtered per your actions.

As expected, checking "Include QSOs with no prop" and running Recompute solved the problem. I hadn't realized that DXKeeper could keep track of propagation modes.

+ DXKeeper can record more than 100 items in each logged QSO. The complete list is here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/Items.htm>

1. terminate DXKeeper on machine A before starting DXKeeper on machine B

2. terminate DXKeeper on machine B before starting DXKeeper on machine A

+ Failure to obey this rule could result in Log file corruption or data loss.

+ The same rules for DXKeeper and its Log file(s) apply to SpotCollector and its Spot Database file.

+ You might consider the alternative of using a remote access tool -- like TeamViewer, which is free -- on the machine in your home office to access to machine in your shack. This provides access without introducing the need for synchronization.

Slowly but surely I am migrating my workflow to DXLab. Overall, so far it was a very pleasant surprise -- virtually everything I want (and what sometimes were not available in 3 products I was using for last 15 years) is miraculously already implemented in DXlab. The only requirement for the successful migration -- RTFM (very rare requirement these days) and search this forum -- almost every question gets an answer. Awesome. So far, I just stuck at the proper multi-QTH workflow.
Integrity of DXKeeper database is a paramount (I do not care for centralized SpotDatabase file -- it can be separate for each QTH, since it's getting old within an hour, and I do not travel between my QTHs that fast. So only the main DXKeeper database is important.
Upon install, I put the file on a local drive of my shack "position 1" computer. I plan to move it to a NAS server (Synology RAID). In my other QTH I have another Synology RAID with synchronized directory (when a single file gets changed on one RAID, it immediately gets updated on another RAID through the VPN connection. However, since the database file is pretty large, adding a single QSO would generate enormous load on my VPN. So I would rather keep it in an un-synchronized folder, and replicate only backups (for redundancy). But if I forget to close DXKeeper on one computer, the whole database can be corrupted.
Microsoft has a recommendation how to share access to Access database: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/ways-to-share-an-access-desktop-database-03822632-da43-4d8f-ba2a-68da245a0446
I am not a Microsoft expert, so I don't know, if using shortcuts would create some sort of locking mechanism, preventing database from corruption in case the database is accessed simultaneously from two computers. What would be the "best practice" in my case? Is there a way automatically shut down the DXKeeper if access id detected from another machine, or other way to protect database integrity? What's the latest "best practice" employed by those who share the database between computers?
Thanks, Gene W3UA

independence to the whole island except the base areas, so its a bit
different than a leased base area. Those areas are sovereign UK

Re: IOTA Dropdown?

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below

I am new to DXLab

+ Welcome, Al!

and have a question regarding entering an IOTA number when entering the QSO data. Is there a Dropdown with the IOTA numbers, OR do I just enter the IOTA number as I hear it, and the program does the rest for tracking.

+ There are 1190 entries in DXKeeper's IOTA database, so a "dropdown" selector would be unwieldy. Simply type in the 6-character IOTA designator in CC-NNN form, where CC is a continent abbreviation and NNN is a 3-digit number.

+ You'll find 4 articles specific to IOTA award tracking here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/IOTAAwardTracking>

+ Before tackling these, I suggest that you start with

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/GettingStarted>

+ and

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/Logging>

+ if you haven't already reviewed these articles.

Assuming there is a IOTA database can I enter the new numbers as they surface?

+ DXLab's IOTA database is managed by Dick N3XRU; you can obtain the latest version (1.27) via the Databases tab of DXView's Configuration window, as described here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/InstallIotaDatabase>

+ The IOTA database 1.2.7 announcement is here:

<https://groups.io/g/DXLab/message/186459>

+ To query the IOTA database, type an IOTA designator into the IOTA box in DXView's Main window, and then strike the Enter key.

+ If you want to maintain your own IOTA database, you can do so by terminating DXView and DXKeeper, and then opening the file IOTA.mdb in DXView's Databases folder with Microsoft Access.

Logging this information can be quite helpful when sometime down-the-road you're staking out a needed DX station.
