LOTW download inconsistencies

Mike - AA1AR

When checking for new QSLs on LOTW recently, I received the following popup text box on one particular QSL:

Resolve inconsistency between logged data and LotW data

Call: xxxxxx, Begin: xxxxxx     00:00:00, Band:  Xm , Mode:  xxx

logged CNTY: FL,St. Lucie      LotW CNTY: FL,SAINT LUCIE

overwrite logged CNTY with Lotw CNTY?

     YES      NO

DXKeeper has  “FL,St. Lucie” in its list of Counties, and LotW sends “FL,SAINT LUCIE”.

So, what’s the right answer to the text box?  Is there a wrong answer?  Does it even matter?

I’ve had this situation come up every so often, and I usually just change it to the lower case

version that DXKeeper is happy with, but today I thought I would ask the group.

+ The ADIF specification cites two authoritative sources of US County names:

and

<http://www.itl.nist.gov/fipspubs/co-codes/states.txt>

+ Both specify

St. Lucie

+ as the name of the county in question. DXKeeper is not objecting to LoTW's use of upper case, it's objecting to the use of Saint
instead of St.

+ Since LoTW confirmations currently aren't valid for CQ's "Worked All US Counties Award"

<https://www.cq-amateur-radio.com/cq_awards/cq_usa_ca_awards/cq_usa_ca_awards.html>

+ my advice is to retain the ADIF-compliant spelling in your logged QSO. If and when the ARRL and CQ get their act together on LoTW
support for USA-CA, perhaps that will prompt LoTW to uniformly adopt ADIF-compliant county spellings. Until then, they probably have
bigger fish to fry.

I agree with that advice.

USA-CA lost counties

Frank G4HBI

I have just spent the past 3 weeks or so typing all my USA counties into a USA-CA DXKeeper Logbook.
Taking all the details from QSL cards. I now have 3,050 counties in and I have a list of counties needed which amounts to 24. As the total number of counties is 3,077 that means there are 3 missing.
I have searched and searched until my eyes have glazed over. Does anyone know of a way I can search
my log and find out just what I am missing.
I produced a progress report then compared that to a full list downloaded off the the web which is
how I discovered my needed list, also I have a few re=works.
I made 3 attempts at comparing the 2 lists but still cannot find the missing 3
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hello Dave

I produced a progress report, then compared it to a list of all counties off the internet
then compared them county by county but I obvious;ly missed some even though I went through
the same exercise 3 times. I put it down to age Hi.

Cheers Frank G4HBI

+ I'm in the middle of chasing down a potential defect. When that's complete, I'll extend DXKeeper's "US Counties" report to
optionally include unworked counties in each state.

The USA-CA still lists Shannon County as a county in South Dakota.
It has been Oglala Lakota County since 2015.

This happens. In Minneapolis the Park Board renamed Lake Calhoun (Calhoun was a slave owner) to the original Dakota name Bde Maka Ska (Lake Earth White) and there is a lot of naming controversy continuing.

Can I assume that as I worked Shannon Co SD in 1983 it will count
as sounds like just a change in name.

That's terrible! Seems like he was just here, wasn't he?

Condolences to his family.

+ One of the "authoritative sources" cited for Secondary Subdivision names in the ADIF specification is

http://countyhunter.com/counties.htm

+ As was reported here in 2017 by Dennis KK7X in this post

<https://groups.io/g/DXLab/message/166613>

+ the South Dakota section of the County Hunters web page was updated to replace Shannon with Oglala Lakota. Inexplicably, I failed to follow up by updating DXKeeper with this change -- an error I have corrected in the next version of DXKeeper. Invoking the Recompute function in this next version will update logged South Dakota QSOs with by replacing Shannon with Oglala Lakota, producing a report that lists all QSOs updated.

Satellite Data in DXKeeper

Mike ZooLoo

I've just recently started with satellites and have come across these issues.  Perhaps they've been resolved, are a new issue or not an issue at all. Any guidance appreciated.

When I make a QSO with a satellite I enter the data into the "capture" pop up from the "Log QSOs" tab. At the bottom of the "capture" box there is a place to enter "Sat Name" and "Sat Mode" After inputting al the data and clicking the "log" button I go back to the main "Log QSOs" tab and the "mode" under "Propagation and "Name" under "Satellites" are flashing blue. I must manually change "mode" to "Sat" in order to fix this. Any changes then results in a pop up "Recomputing award progress.." then "Recomputing WAZ award progress for .. " which can be a lengthy recomputation before I can move on to log the next QSO.

Is there some way to make the propagation mode fill "Sat" automatically whenever I enter a Satellite name in the capture box?

Also, in "Satellite name" in the "Log QSOs" tab or "Sat name" in the capture window a scroll down appears to select the satellite.  Is there any way a selection of satellite name can automatically fill in the TX/RX frequencies of the satellite so this does not have to be done each QSO? So If I go from FO-29 to AO-91 to SO-50 every time I choose a different satellite it will auto fill based on stored data of those satellite frequencies?

I hope I make sense. Any guidance appreciated.

Direct responses outside of the group can be made to aa0mz@...

+ No, but on the Configuration window's Defaults tab, you can set the "Propagation mode" selector to SAT. You can also set this tab's "Satellite name" and "Satellite mode" selectors so that you won't have to select them in the Capture window as you're logging each QSO. Don't forget to reset these defaults at the completion of the pass.

Also, in "Satellite name" in the "Log QSOs" tab or "Sat name" in the capture window a scroll down appears to select the satellite. Is there any way a selection of satellite name can automatically fill in the TX/RX frequencies of the satellite so this does not have to be done each QSO?

+ There is no automatic setting of RX and TX frequencies based on satellite selection. The expectation is that Commander will obtain this information from your transceiver.

If you use JT-Alert not only will it automatically log contacts into DXKeeper but will also automatically upload your contacts to LoTW and eQSL These computer geniuses make our lives so much easier.

I'm guessing you want to use WSJT-X and have it log to DX Keeper.

Here's the how-to file on this:

Yes.  I have hundreds, if not thousands of ft8 contacts worked with wsjt-x and logged with spot collector, which also sends those contacts to LOTW.  I allow Commander to control my rig, and once set up everything works just fine with my ts570s transceiver. Just look up the DXLab suite of programs in GOOGLE, for the Lab program suite.
