Subject: [dxlab] Re: PTT 857/d

The FT-817/857/897(D) series have a functioning CAT PTT command. You should have no problems if Commander is configured to use it.

In the PTT panel near the middle of the General tab of Commander's Configuration window.
1. uncheck the "suppress CAT" box (if checked)

2. tune your radio to a clear frequency, and set its mode to CW

3. click the TX button, and confirm that your radio switches from RX to TX

4. click the RX button, and confirm that your radio switches from TX to RX

If your transceiver control serial port's RTS or DTR signal is connected to an external interface that when asserted switches your transceiver between RX and TX, then you should either
a. check the "suppress CAT" box in the PTT panel described above

or

b. not configure Commander to assert RTS or DTR to switch between RX and TX (don't set the DTR or RTS selectors to TX in the "Primary CAT Serial Port" panel on the Configuration window's Ports tab)

This is because some transceivers become confused when being simultaneously directed to switch between RX and TX via CAT command and via an external interface.

I used to use a program called Weather Watcher and it would export a text file of the weather to my macro. then I'd just send the macro. You could have it export at various intervals so it would be up to day within 15 mins or so. You can also select what you wanted exported, such as temp F or C, wind speed, direction, air pressure, etc.

A WinWarbler macro like
<start>the WX here today is <fileraw: c:\dxlab\wx.txt><stop

will transmit the contents of
c:\dxlab\wx.txt

You can use an app to populate this file, as Buddy WB4M suggests, or you can manually update its contents at the beginning of each operating session. The same technique can be used to transmit a description of your station and operating conditions, if they change from session to session.

Just worked R7DN for marathon the M disappeared from SC but not the N for Zone. Checked the progress report and zone 26 shows R7DN.
Clicking on display status shows phone status not worked, sought. Now another EU Russia is showing up as zone needed.

Norm W4QN reported this behavior yesterday; I am investigating.

make sure that you have 60m enabled in Spotcllector's Band-Filter.
All 60m spots make it to SC here.

Also, at the bottom of the Configuration window's General tab, there's a "File pathname" specified in the "Sub-band Definition"
panel. In the specify file, be sure that the entry for 60m is correct, e.g.

5330,5410,USB,60M

Dave and Group,

My 1st post in 2017 so HNY to everybody

More and more counties are giving 60m assignments to their hams.
With that I would assume a growing interest in 60m among DXLab users.

Although 60m is not (yet) included in the DXCC program

Given the small 60m frequency range, it seems unlikely that QSOs on this band will ever count for DXCC. I will inquire when I am at ARRL headquarters later this week.

Is it really just for emergency comms? A lot of rag chewing and DXing going on now. ARRL in a recent filling to the FCC noted not one complaint had been filed in 14 years. The experiment had worked. 30 meters is still a shared band as for as I know.

Thus, with all respect I'd wish the DXCC stays unchanged until amateur radio earns a nice 200-500 khz slate of the 5 Mhz band.

In the textbox in the Filter panel at the bottom of SpotCollector's

Am I using this incorrectly?
No. Only check the band/mode options if you're considering a
single-band or single-mode entry.

I just started getting the not logged into QRZ message yesterday and have had it about 6 times today. What is the fix for this?

>>>You don't say which DXLab application reported this. I checked out DXKeeper via QRZ XML, DXKeeper via Pathfinder, and
Pathfinder's QRZ search: all work correctly from here. Thus I can only assume that QRZ.com has not altered its XML protocol or its
web page in a way that "breaks" DXLab applications, as such alterations would cause malfunctions for every user. Any difficulties
being experienced in accessing QRZ.com are thus likely regional or local.

Personally I would like to see some kind of support added to DXLab rather than have to use another add on.

>>>Time spent designing, implementing, and documenting an enhancement request is time not spent designing, implementing, and documenting all the other enhancement requests. Thus decisions must consider value to the user, the fraction of the user community that would benefit from that value, the likelihood of attracting new users, and uniqueness with respect to existing capabilities. To justify the replication of functionality already provided by SpotSpy would require significant value over what SpotSpy provides that would benefit most users.

WWFF is slowly growing in popularity, not just in the USA but worldwide as well. OTOH I can understand Dave's reluctance to do so. This would seem to be a more complicated task than NPOTA support was. In the end this may be a matter of "....you can't please all of the people all of the time". Not a deal-breaker for me, just a "it would be nice to have...".

>>>Additional support for WWFF is not particularly complex , but would require more than the 1-2 hours of effort that is my arbitrary limit for immediately implementing a good idea. The suggestion to implement an NPOTA progress report generator that also sent an "NPOTA Needed" filter to SpotCollector was an example of this.

Re: Compelling reason to use Windows 10 vs 7?

Richard B Drake

DXLab works well on both systems. However, the compelling reason is that Windows 10 is here to stay for the foreseeable future while Windows 7 is on the way out. So, lets learn to use the new system and get used to it instead of waiting for the inevitable time when Windows 7 support is completely gone. If there are some things you don't like about Window 10, them join the Insider program and state your opinion.

Commander 12.5.3 serial communication problem?

Lefteris Tsintjelis

Hi

I am having problems with commander. It does not seem to set the proper radio modes most of the times when I click on spotcollector's spots. I am using PowerSDR set as Kenwood TS-2000 emulation and I use KENWOOD in commander. Commander sometimes displays the correct mode but does not set the radio. Some other times does not set even the frequency. Some other times sets everything correctly. Nothing appears in the error logs of spotcollector or commander.
