I'm there! Now that I know what is going on it is just as easy to manage since you can access the QSL setup directly from the Log-LoTW upload page which clearly states what location your call is assigned to. Just one of those old guys that have trouble with new procedures even if they are better. My apologies for taking us down this road. Bob KB1JZU

Dupes
n3qvb
I installed DXLab on my second computer. I exported then imported the log on my original machine just to a have second location and now I see many dupes. Is there a way to delete dupes (keeping one QSO)or at least run a report so I can do it manually? Not sure how this happened but I want to straighten out the log. Thank you.

How to verify SC Spots of mine actually go to Internet?
Dunno if I phrased that correctly.
Simply put, as I am in the process of learning WinWarbler, I see spots decoded by me appear in SpotCollector as "Local". In 'Config', I have DXSPOTS enabled and its "Spot" button is active. Next I go to pskreporter.info and look for any spots posted by my callsign. But I see none. If I transmit, eventually, usually soon, I will see the psk-reporter stations who heard me. However, that has nothing to do with SpotCollector , which is obvious. So how do I get my local spots to get posted somewhere on the Internet? thanks p.s. Thanks Dave or the links to help me be able to actually make contacts. That part is working nicely now. -- Bob KD7YZ

Re: Lotw Multiple Station Locations

There is an organization known as MARAC - Mobile Amateur Radio Awards Club. While CQ magazine is the sponsor/provider of the USA-CA (Worked all US Counties award), MARAC (i.e., the "county hunters") are the arbiters/controllers of the "official" county data.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Most of the stations one hears on the "mobile nets" are either members or former members of MARAC. While it is a formal organization with rules, bylaws, officers, etc., it is still very much a "loose" organization. There aren't a lot of comments, questions, etc., except when someone applies for an award - at that time questions often arise about county structure, award structure, proper protocol, etc. As near as I can tell, I am one of maybe three stations who are active "mobilers" who upload to eQSL and LotW. Many of the other mobiles have been doing it for many years (long before electronic logging) and, for various reasons, are either reluctant to change or just flat refuse to enter the digital age. Such is life. Now that LotW is on the verge of accepting county data, I tidied up my own file management to meet the needs of those wanting either eQSL or LotW or both sets of data. Yes, it's a little more work, a little more time and so forth, but, in the long run, DXKeeper makes it quite handy to get the job done. My request to many of the old-timers was not to worry about the thousands upon thousands of old logs that you're not willing to update. How about just starting now? My pleas, for the most part, continue to fall on deaf ears. One of my fellow county hunting friends commented to me one day - "I'm not worried about the county hunters of today. I'm worried about the county hunters of the future!" Apparently most of today's logging programs have features to help with electronic uploads, matches, etc., with eQSL, LotW, ClubLog, etc. On my own end, I *do* have to perform some minor tasks (like segregating my station location by county prior to signing and upload), but the capabilities of DXKeeper make it more or less painless. In fairness, there may be other programs that make it as simple as DXKeeper does. I've had experience with several other programs, but certainly not all of them. Of the ones I have experience with, none of them "hold a candle" to what I can accomplish with DXKeeper. Even though many of my other friends can't/won't upload their logs, they are amazed at what I can accomplish with DXKeeper. Since I'm significantly older than Dave, there's a good chance I'll be gone before him and won't have to worry about having to find another good programmer! Art - N4PJ

Don't know about number of rewrites but check your motherboard and operating system carefully before trying to add a SSD.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
There is limited support for SSD in Windows XP - it lacks TRIM so is not efficient in allocation of space. Second be careful with interface specifications - I purchased an SSD for my main system but its interface was SATA3 (6 Gb) only and the the motherboard only supported SATA (1.5 Gb) and SATA2 (3 Gb). I selected the drive I did based on reliability information as the older SSDs with the SATA/SATA 2 interfaces appeared to be substantially less reliable than the current generation of devices. 73, ... I've read about the SSD's failing after a certain amount of read/writes... That was a rumor (possibly true when they first hit the market) a few years ago, but I'm told by a number of people who have them it has been rectified. I would verify this before buying one, but I don't think it's the case anymore. My son has been running one in a Linux server as the system drive for about 2 years and claims it is like lightning. He was aware of the problem you mentioned and did a lot of research, and he concluded it was not a problem. It goes 24/7 and is a busy machine (he is an electrical engineer and ~2 years away from a PhD, so I trust his judgement.) 73, Paul VE1DX

Solid State Drives (SSD) are indeed now appearing in the mainstream. They are still a bit more expensive per megabyte than rotating electro mechanical hard drives. But they are fast, reliable and finally available in usable capacities (128, 256 and 512 GB). My wife has a 128GB SSD in her new Toshiba Ultabook, an amazingly small and light full featured Laptop, and as Dave said, it "Screams".

DXKeeper 10.3.7 won't launch resolved
A complete check disk found and replaced some bad sectors. All now works
as it should. A review of Event Viewer shows no 1005 errors in the Application Log until today. DXKeeper had no errorlog.txt, and Launcher had one with a single entry from back in 2011. I'll keep a careful eye on the hard drive, and start checking into replacing it. 73 de Chuck, WS1L -- =================== Chuck Chandler chandlerusm@gmail.com ===================

It is likely a good idea to replace the hard drive. I have seen some RAM disks available - is anyone using them? I use a 160 GB Intel SSD as the C: drive on my laptop; it screams. The process below got DXKeeper running as 10.3.7, just as it should. Thanks!! I have the Windows disk for WXP Pro, SP3 - my PC is a reconditioned Tiger Direct IBM ThinkCentre, so there is a certificate of authenticity to match the PC. Re-installing on a new HD should be doable. What is the best way to make a full backup? Does the WXP backup utility handle this or do I need something like Ghost? It's been years since I've had to do this. but found it full of defects and user hostile; it may have improved sinceI have never relied on Windows backup. I used Ghost for several years, then. I now use StorageCraft's ShadowProtect to backup all PCs to an on-premises server (daily incrementals with one full backup each week); it's easy to use and reliable. I use Mozy for continuous daily online backup. 73, Dave, AA6YQ
