Paul I didn’t follow whether you are using this loop for transmit and receive. The answer to use tube indicates that you are using it for both. Do be aware that improving ie reducing losses also makes

Simon Use a half moon edging spade to make a cut one inch deep then push the wire in as you go. Walk along the cut and it will seal very quickly. Buried radials like this cannot be resonated in the us

The radial wires don't need to be thick. Stay away from flex weave in my opinion, use solid wire. Those tiny wires very quickly dissolve. Cheapest wire I know that is regularly available is house wire
