Loop Antenna + on 40m
Hi Jon, It could be several things that affect the performance of your loop. The first thing I would do would be to look at the background noise level and compare it with say 80m and 30m. 80m should b

At what frequency(ish) does a small receiving loop lose directivity?
Looking at your example of a 1.2m loop it will have a full wave resonance like a quad loop at 79.6 MHz. On that frequency the maximum gain will be broadside to the loop.. At low frequencies where the

PSK63 HF APRS is Back !
Good to hear that FlDigi can be used as a KISS modem. I was really disappointed when I had to remove APRS Messenger but I could find no way to run the Visual Basic 6 programming software on Windows 10

VLF/LF/HF Active Vertical Antenna...5 kHz to 30 MHz Discontinued!
Hi Robert, Thanks for your kind comments on the antenna. I think you probably got one from the last few batches where we used 2 mm thick tube for the elements. Due to the Covid-19 situation we are lim

Ground rod on a loop
Very interesting. My first transistor radio back in the 1960s had the triangle in circle marks on the dial. Now I know what they were for. Regards, Chris

Ground rod on a loop
That's why I suggest adding the ground after the common mode choke built into the Loop Antenna Amplifier + so that the ground connection doesn't affect the conventional loop due to the common mode RF

With a conventional loop using the Loop Antenna Amplifier + I would ground it at the loop with a connection between ground rod and the BNC connector screen. This will ground any common mode RF noise c

Antenna amplifier for Beverage and large cardioid loop antennas
Beverage antennas don't really work over salt water or beaches. They rely on the incoming radio wavefront penetrating the ground. Due to the change in the speed of light (radio) in a dielectric (soil)

The Loop on the Ground and the Beverage antennas work the same way. It relies on the incoming wavefront interacting with the ground to tilt the wavefront . This is how a vertically polarised wave can

Recently on the forum there has been a discussion on building large (2m or 6 foot side) cardioid loops for 160m DX operation. This needs a loop amplifier with an input impedance around 450 ohms. Today
