Re: Antenna Isolator install

Will Grocott

Hi Chris
just wanted to let you know I have completed the install everything is working like a charm. I made a coax pigtail so I could connect the isolator inline between my feeder and the butternut 20m matching stub.

Super pleased and knowing I have isolation on the ground reassures me. I have a PME property and I can rest easy knowing my station won’t pass high current in a mains fault condition. Great work!

other units in this price range to consider, perhaps ?
MFJ-1046 looks a similar design - a series tuned circuit with matching transformers at the input and output. It looks a lot larger than the CCW product though.

Re: HDSDR

Hi Donald,

Check the sound settings for the USB Audio Codec sound card in the SDR-4+ receiver.

Windows 10 default setting for it is as a mono microphone. If you look into the Advanced Settings in sounds you will be able to change it to "Two channel, 48000 Hz, DVD quality".

This will allow the SDR program to work correctly and display the spectrum.

The settings on the calibration sheet are for a very precise setup of HDSDR. Without it you may see a very weak image of a strong signal on the other side of the display.

Regards,

Chris

I use the latest widows ten, it upgrades all the time.  I have a mirror image on that screen and I can not get rid of it.  The computer is a aspire 1 note book?

I have read some of the messages and I have checked that the sound card is 48000, the volume and the  A G C works well.  I bought it second hand, received the disc but not the calibration chart, would that cause the problem?  I am getting on a bit and not that good on computer's although I have used them since the B B C  for data. Any idea’s ?

Chris Moulding

Hi Bob,

At the start of the Covid-19 lockdown we stopped making products that took a lot of workshop assembly.

The HF Preselector was one of the cancelled products.

We don't have a US distributor as we sell and ship our products direct to our customers worldwide.

Chris

U.S. Source For HF Pre Selector ? And, a few general questions on

rmrrgs

Hello,

Anyone know of a source in U.S. to purchase the HF Pre Selector ?

And, would appreciate any thoughts and comments on the unit.
   reasonably effective ?
   worth the cost ?
other units in this price range to consider, perhaps ?

Do listening only, below <30 MHz.
Have a SDR Play RSPdx.

Thanks,
Bob

Thanks again Chris

You inspired me to look at connections again.
And hey-presto - problem solved..........

Hi Paul,

It sounds like you have a bad shield connection on one or more of your coax cables. This may be caused by the coax connector not being screwed up tightly.

When that happens the coax cable acts as an antenna and picks up local RF signals such as from another antenna cable.

From what you describe I'd check the connection to the RSP2 and the indoor loop first.

Chris

A tale of ignorance and incompetence

I have three SDRplay RSP's, a RSP2a duo and a dx. All have been and are working well. However, in a burst of enthusiasm, I decided that it was time to "sort out" the historically created "snakes-nest" of cables and rack-mount (not as grand as it sounds) the RSP's.
I carefully labelled each cable to avoid mistakes and after reattaching them all was apparently quite in order.
However, I have subsequently discovered an anomaly that affects the RRSP2 and duo (The dx is unaffected)..
The RSP2 is physically connected to an indoor HF/VHF loop on the Bias-T connection, whilst the duo has no physical connection to this, or the outdoor Loop Antenna + .
The anomaly referred to is that both the RSP2 and duo appear to be receiving signals from the outdoor loop (this is actually quite convenient but shouldn't be happening).
The + base unit is in the same under-desk cupboard as the three RSP's and associated cabling, the "new snakes-nest" is now discreetly out of sight, but are obviously all close together.
I am quite unsure about the cause of my anomaly, but do wonder whether it is possible for cables to be sort of parasites to neighbouring cables.
Using the Bias-T with the RSP2 antenna connection to the indoor loop now has little or no effect.
Definitely still head scratching...
