On the later HF Active Antennas we used a hybrid transformer rather than the Owen splitter to reduce the RF loss through the base unit.

Ideally both outputs should be terminated for best results in terms of RF output and to reduce coupling between the two RF outputs. If only one receiver is in use a 50 ohm load should be used on the other socket. The small 50 ohm loads used for terminating ethernet cables are ideal for the job.
