Distributor drive gear

Newbie here with what might be a stupid question. What is the best way to remove the distributor gear? Oil pan off as well as the retainer nut. Can't seem to just lift off so lever with a tool? Gear puller? Unscrew? Grip from the top and yank? Get a bigger hammer? Thanks for the help.

Once you remove the drive gear from the bottom, be sure you have loosened the clamp for holding the distributor from turning after timing. Then pull straight up.

Jim,

The gear or the distributor itself?
The gear is just a snug, slip fit, with a drive key splined into it. Once all of the retaining nut(s) are off, it SHOULD just pull off. If not, a pry bar, gently applied to the top/bottom side (depending upon your view of it) should get it moving. A shot of carb cleaner or WD40, could help.

For the distributor, after the gear is pulled, remove the single 1/4' bolt (7/13" head), holding the hold down clamp, and pull/twist, to remove it from the crankcase. There is an o-ring, around the distributor body, that can be real tight.
