Hi Curt,
I would love to take a look if others don’t grab it first. I generally do Camaro and boat restorations but being retired I have time for anything. I am in a Fallbrook, just north of San Diego.

Hello all, I'm new to the group. I joined specifically to help my mom find a new home for her '51 HotShot. A little about the car: it’s in rough but restorable shape. I would definitely classify this as a "Barn Find"  It’s been garaged since 1965. Convertible top is rotted, and upholstery needs work. Body is straight and mostly rust and dent free. Chrome is pitted but straight. Tires are unusable and suspension is suspect.  Engine ran when garaged. No idea what it’s like now. Paint is badly oxidized. My mom garaged it when I was born in 1965 because, "as a mom she needed a more practical car." (That '64 Rambler wagon was awesome). She's kept it all these years in the hopes that I would someday restore it. Truth is I'm more into motorcycle restoration and will never actually get the car from San Diego to Portland and work on it. She's downsizing and needs that among other things out of the garage. I'd hate to see it parted out and would love it if someone wanted it for restoration. I have no current photos as it's on the other end of the West Coast, and surrounded by heavy objects my mom cannot move. I also have zero idea of price (rookie move to post this, I know).  If anyone is seriously interested, PM me and we can talk specifics and I can make a trip down to move things around and get some pics.

Hey Everyone, Thanks for all the interest. The car is currently in La Mesa. I am on the other end of the West Coast though in Portland, OR. As I said, this is part of a larger downsizing plan. We're not in a huge hurry to unload the car, but will want it done by the end of the Summer. Based on the amount of interest, it probably makes sense for me to get down there sooner than later, move everything that's hiding it in the garage, get some photos and maybe show it while I'm there. I don't have a date set yet, but I will update here as soon as I do.

Hi Mike,
Be careful due to many are from China.
I would recommend Otto in Elkton, M.D.

They manufacture rings for what ever size you need. You just have to measure correctly.
Hope this helps.

Well, I am sure you will pay a lot more and get a lot less from anyone other than our Crosley vendors.  Is there a reason you don't want to use the experts?

I have seen stuff on eBay and I found that Service Motors, Dave Edwards and Yankee Motors all have better prices than eBay.

There was a time when your only choice was NOS bearings. That source is pretty much done and over. When Butch owned Service Motors he worked with a manufacturer to produce the bearings we need . Lots of money was invested and the way you get that investment back is to sell the bearings at a profit. As far as I know Service is the only one selling them.I'd not walk but run from ebay listings. I've seen too many listings such as "also fits Crosley" when I know that's impossible. The last place I would cheap out is rings and bearings.

Rear axle nut tightness

David Reina

Hi Gang,

How tight should the rear axle nuts be tightened to. Its a castellated nut soda we go as tight as we can and try to line up a slot for the cotter pin, or do we tighten and then back off to the nearest cotter pin slot? I’m working on a 47 CC Sedan.

Thanks,
