Running on Three Cylinders
As the title states my 47 CC is running on three cylinders..This happened while going down the road at 40 mph, no hint at anything being wrong prior..No pinging, no over heating, no extra noise..Cyl #4 Just stopped running..Plenty of spark; the plug looked fine but replaced it and still no fire.Valve clearance is at spec of .004/.006.Checked compression and found #30 lbs, all others are at #120..Put air adapter in spark plug hole and hooked air supply up and air was exiting the exhaust pipe..So bad exh valve or seat..Am I missing some thing? There was no clue to something being wrong; I didn't think a valve could go bad in an instant..Any input?

Re: Over Heating
PATRICIA GRITTI
hi
Believe modern antifreeze like the stuff found in yellow bottles in auto supply stores is the cause of gunk in Crosley engines. After scraping the gunk from my engine block I switched to Xerex antifreeze with the hope that it would not cause gunk.
If regular Crosley parts suppliers can provide stock side plates that should be the way to go.

I saw a set at the nationals this summer for $150. Maybe watch eBay, but they won't come up very often. Asking for them here, is probably your best bet.

Re: Over Heating
Andy Farley
I talked with Blaz Brajevich (Braje) this afternoon. He has shut down his machine shop but still has Braje Crosley engine parts. He's going to send me a list of available items. The number that Whistler gave is disconnected but Blaz answers the following number 310-316-2725.

Re: Over Heating
Andy Farley
It's not too hard to do. 7/16 socket, 7/16 wrench both a short one and a long one. Drain all of the coolant. Remove the starter,. Make sure you cover or plug the dipstick hole. Remove the hose from the engine to the water pump. Remove the bolts and the covers come off easily by prying them off with a screwdriver. The gunk was an inch high and packed up between the cylinders. It scraped out easily with a screwdriver. Then I flushed anything that was left out with a hose end sprayer. I ordered new side plates from Service Motors mine were badly corroded. $35 for both.

Braje still makes them. Do a computer search for Braje Equipment in Gardena, CA. Give them a call.

They will fit, they are available but don’t have the info. Off the top of my heads maybe someone can chime in. I know this has come up before. Perhaps if you search braje on the discussion board.

This is on a braje side cover. I don’t have a steel one off at the moment, but same idea.

Re: Over Heating

Well it looks like you guys nailed it. Took both side plates off and the water jacket was full of crud. Service Motors sent me me the new gaskets (even though something went wrong with my credit number). When I get it back together I'll let you know if it fixed the overheating problem. I'm guessing it will. The side plate with the diverter is useable but should be replaced. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Crosley 18 wheeler
thing73@...
Hello, as many of you have seen, I had the truck on BaT and the bid got to 8000. As I had a reserve it did not sell. I am now repainting the truck and trailer with a new design. The vintage paint was not very popular with buyers. I have taken down all of the information about it on the website for the truck . My youtube page also no longer has any videos for all of the rebuilding over the years. I am selling the URL www.crosleygarage.com if anyone is intersted in it before I let Godaddy list it for sale for me. Once the truck is finished I will have a new website for it with videos and photos of the new look. Crosleygarage.com last week was listed as 95% above all other car related sites on GoDaddy. This week it has droped to 75% as have removed all of the content from the site except for a photo of a 1937 dodge truck that belonged to a hardware store we owned in Philadelphia. The photo was taken in 1937 by the origional owners of the hardware business.

Good thought, but not really applicable to the Crosley cooling system. Butch
