carburator problems
"imakarknut" <karknut@...>
Hello all: As some one with limited experience with Crosleys and
rebuilding carbs, I am seeking advise. Bought a carb rebuild kit from Service Motor folks and took carb off and somewhat apart. Cleaned inside as best I could and replaced plunger & rod as the plunger looked worn out, checked float and blew through the carb to determine that needle and seat were working. Put barb back in car and after testing fuel pump again (fuel flows out nicely)tried to start 48 wagon. Cranked a while then engine roared to life but no matter what I tried, it soon died. Same pattern 3-4 times. Feel that all is not operating in carb but not sure of just what. Any thoughts? All input welcome! Thanks Steve |

Peter, I've been hanging out on AACA for awhile too so I recognized your name. I thought about asking for space on the AACA board but we like our Thursday night chats and photo albums. Thanks for the offer.

Great photo web page. Well your 52 is a very early 1950 Hot Shot. Yes those are disc brakes they came out on all Crosley models in mid 49 and were discontinued late in 50 after having corrosion problems in area that use salt on the road. It looks like a very complete unit to start a restoration. If you want to get in to a Crosley to restore this is a good model. If you decide to sell instead of restore, I'm sure you will get some offers from this board. You can also place a free ad in our "Hot Sheet" that gets mailed to 1300+ club members 1/4ly by sending the ad to mailto:CAC@... please include a non Email method of getting hold of you for the 1/4ly. eBay is another good spot, Crosley stuff seems to bring good money. Good luck Jim... Find full details on the car, including photos at: |

Pictures and serial number would be a good start. There are some hard to find parts that if they are missing will drive down the cost. What kind of brakes does it have. I have found that a lot of 51-52 Hot Shots have turned in to Super Sports or 49-50. That's why the serial number and brake question. Jim... Re: Voltage regulator ??and problems
"crosley19" <CROSLEY19@...>
clean the area around the generator terminals. One will be marked F,
and the other A. The voltage regulator will be marked on the post where the wires fasten to. One is marked F(field), one A(armature), and one B (battery). Connect the field terminal of the gen to the fielf to the field terminal of the voltage regulator, connect the armature terminal of the gen to the armature terminal of the voltage regulator. Connect the battery terminal of the voltage regulator to the constant hot terminal of the starter solenoid (the big terminal that goes to the negative battery terminal) Now you must POLARIZE the generator ( this is to tell the generator which terminal on the battery is hooked to ground. To do this take a small piece of wire and jump the battery, and armature terminals of the voltage regulator for a split second!! If the generator and voltage regulator are good it should charge. You may want to try and polarize the voltage regulator you already have on the car, as this may start it working again. Alot of times when the battery is removed from the car the voltage regulator will forget it's polarity, and you will have to polarize it again. Hope this helps you. Barry |

1952 Hot Shot
"petergar" <petergar@...>
My brother inherited a 1951 Crosley Hot Shot a few years back, and
had all the intensions in the world of restoring it. Now, after partially dismantling it and doing some misc repair work he's interested in selling. It's complete, it does run, and its not rusty or damaged. But it needs everything. Anyone have a clue as to it's value? Peter |

sounds like I should change to the Voltage regulator on the firewall for any kind of reliability. Where could I find a color and wiring diagram for this regulator. It looks like only 3 wires on the firewall regulator, but I need a wiring diagram. The small generator used a small cutout relay mounted on the generator. It sounds like you have an after market replacement. It basically charged full or not at all by controlling the field wire.
