1950 Hotshot Goodyear Hawley Disc Brakes

Jim Liberty

Hi guys, I have dismantled the disc brakes on my Hotshot. They were frozen with rust on the piston sleeve. The rubber "O" ring feels pliable. Are there any tricks I need to know in reassembly. I'll switch to DOT - 5 to eliminate water in the system.

I read bad things about this system, anyone with advice, will be much appreciated.  Has anyone switched to drums ???          ...................................Jim.

Jim, I agree with you.  If you allow jokes and cute kittens, not that there is anything wrong with them, then next someone will post something dealing with politics or religion.  Whole wars have been fought for less.  I vote to keep it somehow related to the Crosleys.  I can find the cute kittens somewhere else if I want them.

Hi Jim,

If it was me who sent it to our Crosley-Gang I apologize and don’t understand how that happened.  I had received it today and forwarded it to my wife and my dad.

Re: 39 Crosley

Likely a problem in the carb. First thing, check to be sure the idle tube is straight and the needle at the bottom is actually going up into the idle tube.Idle tubes get bent  because folks don't take the carb apart correctly. Could be dumping an unregulated amount of fuel into the intake. If that checks out , set top and bottom adjustments back to the "default" setting. Just search "carb adjustment" here and that will pop up.

I just spoke to Steve Demartino on this engine.   He has some history on the engine and was a former owner.  He states it is in EXCELLENT condition!!  I also hear that there are a few bidders already lined up for this item!!

I guess contact info for Bob would help.

He is not on the Crosley-Gang so send him an eMail and tell him when you want to pick it up.

For Sale: CC frame with Rear & Drive Shaft - Western NY - Cheap

Frame and rear end assembly (axle, driveshaft, springs and shocks), & 2 wheels. 6" brakes on rear. Fair condition. I could sell them for scrap, but I have a lot of respect for well-made old machinery. I am in the town of Marilla, NY - about 15 miles east of Buffalo NY; as the crow flies. A Christmas tree binder was welded to the back - in the interests of full disclosure.

Cheap, make an offer.

I'd like to see it go to a good home.

It's getting down to the wire,
but there's still time to register for the
VSCCA Spring Sprints
(May 7-8, 2021 - Lime Rock Park)

H-Mods are a featured class. Three H-Mods are registered, and a couple more are "promised." In addition to the cars on the track, we expect to see several more in the paddock. It'll be more H-Mods than I've ever seen in one place. Should be fun.

This is a great opportunity to join the gang, get your car out, and bring it to the track. The VSCCA driving school will take place at the Sprints -- so you can brush up if you haven't been out in a while.

There is a bell crank at the rear. The cable ends where my PU does, in front. No bar in front, but I could make this. Nothing on the rear calipers.    ......Jim.

Hey guys, I have disc brakes on my '50 Hotshot. Can someone tell me how to bleed them. There appears to be a grease nipple (Smaller) on the inboard side of the caliper. It has no means for loosening it like on early Porsches.                          ................................Jim.
