1951 Farm O Road saved from extinction

jeff <jeffalyon@...>

Thanks everyone for your help in saving FOR 254 from the scrapper.  Found it in San Antonio a few years ago rusting outside.  Now runs great with 30 pounds oil pressure at idle ( per the original gage).  Still need to hook up the turn signal switch.
I am also looking for two items; a rear taillight assembly, and a spare tire mount.  New or used works for me. The Crosley vendors do not have these items.  Thanks again,
Jeff in West Sacramento

Re: Rear Leaf Springs - Different from side to side?

L.E. Hardee

Drivers side front springs sometimes had more leafs so I guess having thicker ones on rear springs is reasonable.

Hello, Crosley fans. I'm reassembling a 1952 CD Wagon for eventual conversion to electric drive. The good news: The body underside and frame are completed, and the rear leaf springs have been disassembled, cleaned, painted and reassembled. The bad news: I didn't mark which spring goes to which side. They both have the same number of leafs, but one of them appears to have thicker leafs than the other. Not all leafs, only 2, maybe three. Do the springs differ from side to side? I'm guessing that if they did, the stouter one would go under the driver's side, right?  I did not mix up the parts between the two spring packs. They are exactly as they came off the car (except way cleaner).

Re: Decode a cobra engine

Nice looking engine. There are a few of us with running CoBras out here. Search YouTube for “Crosley CoBra” and you’ll come across some of my videos.

Before you start it, fill the block with water to see if there are any leaks. The water also provides a heat sink. The thin metal block heats up FAST and can be damaged quickly without water to soak up the heat.

If you do discover any pinhole leaks, some folks have had good luck with K&W block sealer. I chased a roundside pickup heading into Wauseon last summer with the tin block that was very, very sprightly. The owner told me later he’d treated it with K&W and had no problems.

As a running display engine, this will be a hoot at car shows!

Blessings,

Park

David,  Welcome to the Crosley Automobile Club, The Crosley sedans typically sell for less than the other models. I am not personaly familiar with that sedan, though I know that Tom Boylan has always done fine work.
