Re: Strange Engine Water Pump
Jim, I looked at the pics from Mecum earlier today. They are billing it as "art" (go figure) so I'm not sure anything is right. It appears to me the pump is being held on only by the hoses. It's not even bolted in the right place. I have one of the jackshafts that replace the generator on my new build and it would not fit into that space at all. It appears to be just odd parts bolted together for the sake of (again) "art". I know, one thing, I have a genuine 48 or earlier "art" engine that I would gladly sell for a grand.

Re: Strange Engine Water Pump
Could be but it is different than the several generator engines I have had or the ones I have seen that I paid attention to. I know Crosley build a lot of different versions of the generator setup.

Kap also said, "This water pump was driven by a jack shaft since the unit had a magneto with no need for a generator or battery (crank started)."

Strange Engine Water Pump
Saw a posting for an engine for sale at a Mecum Auction
https://www.mecum.com/lots/FR0119-349509/crosley-1948-crosley-motor/ When I looked at it they claim it is a 1948 but the serial number and block styles indicates it is probably a 1950 engine. What is strange is the water pump, anyone seen one this style? What was the application? Other thing I noticed is it doesn't appear to have a bolt to hold on the front pulley. More pictures at auction link.

Re: my first crosley any advise welcome
You might try turning it over (not with the starter but turn the flywheel and do NOT try to turn with the bolt on the crank pulley)

Re: my first crosley any advise welcome
Appears to be complete....that would worry me. It may not have any internals (pistons , rods, cam, etc etc.) And if it was made up from various parts it may not have matching main bearing caps or matching bell housing halves. If you put up a few pictures that might tell us something.

my first crosley any advise welcome
I have just purchased my first crosley car https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1044346 it claims " The engine does not run as it was assembled for display only and will need to be rebuilt but appears to be complete"
now I always think engines are stripped for a reason and I was wondering if anyone could advise on the car if anyone knows it (its from pittsburgh) or any common faults with the engine plus the spares situation thanks all shaun

Welcome to the world of Crosley ! I would start by pulling the spark plugs and spraying a good amount of penetrating oil in the cylinders. Let it sit for a couple days. Put the plugs back. Also if ANY fuel sits that long, Drain it. Flush with a bit of new fuel. Non-ethynol is best. Put a gallon in the tank. Pull the air cleaner and spray a good bit of carb and choke cleaner into the carb. Be sure you have a charger on the battery and start cranking. I would use my hand to choke it. This way you can control the air flow into the carb. You may have a selonoid switch with a "button" under it. If so, this is your hand switch to the starter, much easier than reaching in to start with your right hand, and trying to reach the carb with your left. Keep us informed as to how you make out. Put some pictures on also. As vice president of the club, I would encourage you to join the Crosley Automobile Club. Take a look at our official website for details. We are here for you ! Jeffrey

Hi
New to Crosley. Is there info on how to awaken a Crosley 1946 CC cast iron engine. Was restored 10 years ago and ran and drove and then was stored inside. Prevoius owner states they put aviation fuel in tank so it should be just fine. Thanks in advance for help. Dave
