Re: No crankcase breather tube on the Youth Project car

This topic comes up every year or so. Here is a thread that had some suggestions on adding a pan breather if you don't want to swap crankcases.

I'm not real keen on the only crankcase vent being on the very top of the motor which will gather a lot of grease and dirt. I wish there was a way to add a blow by tube somewhere.

I noticed that the HotShot does not have any side vents.  My 1949 HotShot has the smaller vents to the engine compartment which was a carry over from the CC fender design retooled by the factory, while my 1952 SuperSports has the larger vents into the passenger compartment.  (my 49 HotShot even has the closed off vent holes visible from the inside on the rear fenders) Anyone know the time frame where the VC models had no side vents?

The number will be below the distributor on a flat, and yes I think you hit the snake on the head...

Fred, is that on the driver side on the small flat milled out spot ? I'm guessing the motor has been changed out and the lower end is from a Cobra.

I believe the oil filler tube/cap is also a breather.

What is the serial number on the crankcase?

Lot of interesting cars in this auction. The 14th is a preview day the link below has the auction listed as two different auctions one Saturday and one Sunday but it look like some of the cars are listed on both so not sure when a specfic car will be sold,  they may have more specifics as the dates get closer. In looking through the pictures I see at least 3 Prewars (2 pretty rough), Two Hotshots (one may be a Super Hotshot), and a CD wagon.

The auction is the weekend after the Crosley Nationals in Wauseon and looks to be about 90 minutes from Wauseon for anyone that wants to extend their stay in Ohio.

Looks great! Congrats to Lizzie. We were parked next to her at the 2014 meet, so we had a chance to see the quality work she was doing. This is a significant accomplishment and will be a treasured memory with her grandfather.

I heard that the eMail was stripped off. I used Groups.IO feature to put a clickable eMail in so I'm surprised it stripped it.

Try this and take out the space and put in an"@". donaldspeer gmail.com On my message it looks like the first part of the name is clickable to get an eMail window.

Glad you guys had a nice get together. That chili sounds great, though I am glad I did not have to ride home with Stoney! Jackson, I just learned last year how to use plastiguage and torque down the bearings properly. Amazed me how tight the tolerences need to be.

I think (I said think) I have Jackson an account on the Gang set up , but have not had him long enough today to show him how it works. But I thought I'd give everyone an update. We had the car pretty much stripped down and ready for a body lift but then he broke his foot ! He's in a cast for quite a while and hobbles around on crutches. We are having  a Kyana meet at my garage this Saturday (the meet is on for 10 am Saturday and I'm feeding everyone) and planned to lift the body then but I needed to get it where he could sit and work so I went ahead and lifted the body. It's on a cradle now. I've had him stripping parts off the engine and we pull the motor Saturday. We believe we have a good motor. Good oil pressure and the compression from front to rear reads  120# 120# 125# and 125#. We'll check the bottom end once on a stand and at the minimum rebuild the oil pump and clean the pan. He had some free time after school so I put him to installing new spring bushings in the front mounts.

I had 4 of the urethane bushings left so figured the front was a good place for them. We need to get more to finish the rest of the front and rear. The plan is to have him clean the frame and paint it, install the rear springs and the shocks  (thanks Ted at Yankee for the donation of the shocks), detail the motor and put it back in and then put the body back on. It's coming along.
