Need Tower Guy near Austin Texas

Scott Kerr

A good friend of mine is a Ham who lives in Wimberly, just south of Austin, Texas. He is former President of the Collins Collectors Association and has an incredible display of Collins gear. He has a 55 foot USTower crankup with a Tennadyne Log. The log has lost its balun and it is far enough out on the boom that the log is going to have to come down to repair. He is now at the age where he can no longer climb and wants to hire someone to do the work. He also needs some minor maintenance on the tower while someone is there. The tower install was well done and is in good shape at this time -- he wants to get back on the air.

Does anyone know of good tower install/maintenance guy in that area?

Thanks,

Scissor lifts should only be used on dead level paved surfaces. They are totally unstable and deadly on soft or sloped surfaces.

A bucket truck operator might be possible to find. Boom lifts inmy experience are easily rented and I've rented a 40ft straight boom several times for work on HDX589 to install 40m Moxon, DB36, adn 80m rotatable dipole. With tower down, element work is a piece of cake.

My preference is for the Genie brand over JLG. Rated 500 pounds bucket load one person and even a large antenna can be installed. And when you've forgot a bolt, the ride up and down is easy.

I owned a articulating 40ft which I've sold since the reach was limited.
If used off pavement 4wd is essential - proven on two occasions I got an 80ft and 90ft 2wd stuck, but that's another story.

Great idea and that was my first thought but the tower in back where you cannot get a lift to it.

I use the JLG extendable boom manlift that has its own limited abilty to self level. Self powered to crawl to where you need it.
