EZNEC Update - Roy is retiring

Al Ludwick / NN4ZZ

*Roy asked that we forward this:*

“After 31 years of developing, selling, and supporting EZNEC and
its predecessor ELNEC, I'm going to retire. Beginning Jan. 1,
2022, EZNEC Pro/2 will be free and can be copied and
distributed. All support will stop on that date, and no refunds
will be issued. Until that time, prices and sales will be
unchanged. Please see https://eznec.com/retirement.htm for full
details. I'll try to answer any questions you have after reading
       the announcement.
I'm deeply grateful to all the EZNEC users who have made it
possible for me to escape the Dilbert cartoon and make a living
as a one person company with no bosses and no employees. It's
been wonderful and a lot of fun.
I'd appreciate your passing this information along.

Re: New guy update - EZ-Way

I have a 40' AlumaTower mounted on an MP2. I dug my hole with a shovel, post-hole diggers, and my shop vac. In an effort to keep my hole tight I would break up the dirt and suck it out with the shop vac after I was about 3 feet deep. Then after 6.5' deep put the MP2 into the hole. when refilling I used a water hose as I filled it back in. My tower has survived two hurricanes and a few tropical storms in SouthWest Florida. No concrete is needed. My tower is still strong and true like the day we installed it.

Since we were just across the state from AlumaTower I rented a Uhaul truck and picked it up at the factory and saved a great deal in shipping. Go a tour of the shop in the process.

AlumaTower is the way to go!

1. I do not know if Aluma Tower is connected in any way to EZ-Way - they went out of business in the 1970s or 80s.

2. Thank you for the  U-Ship recommendation!

3. This is not for FD. This tower is going in at my QTH.

4. I already have a hole that is 5 feet deep and done by an excavator that was waiting for a tower. I feel safe as that hole has stood fine for months now (covered though). I plan to drop a ladder in, climb down, and use a post hole digger for the last foot or two I need. I can then place the pole and fill the entire hole.

1.  Is Aluma Tower company in any way connected with the old EZ-way tower, and to

what extent is the MP-2 a clone of the old EZway pole?

2.  Regarding shipping:  try "U-ship"

3.  For FD, is the assumption that you dig a MUCH bigger hole

than necessary with shovels, fixture the pole in the bottom,

and then fill it back in?   I don't see any way to "drill"

a hole just big enough without a truck mounted auger.

And in either event, removing the pole requires extensive

excavation to remove the packed in dirt, or again a

big truck with a winch that can yank out the pole by

brute force.  Am I missing something here?

4.  You are not supposed to dig by hand holes deeper

than 4 feet due to the cave-in danger.  When I was young

and foolish I dug several 3 x 3 x 6 foot deep holes with a

garden spade, a 5 gallon bucket, and a ladder.  Can't

imaging doing that within the 24 hour FD limit.

I made mine with a 16' steel tube 7" dia and 1/4 thick. I have a rbx-70
I also embedded it in concrete with the braces.

Hi Dino,
Well it depends on how people send the money when using Paypal.  I don't remember the wording but in one case they deduct a fee.  ( $0.45 on a $5 transfer ).  I think if you select to "send to a friend" there is no deduction.

Alan,
We are set for this year....I post every July asking if anyone wants to donate a few dollars ( $3 - $5 ) and send to me via Paypal.  It is strictly voluntary and not a requirement but we are all set for this year.  This is a great group and no worries, maybe catch us next year.  We are already over the amount needed for 2021 by $7.46.

Thanks for asking!

If you are new to the this forum you may not know that we have a premium subscription that allows us to have up to 20GB of files and photos.   And for this group the files and photos are very helpful.   The yearly cost is $110.   Every year in July we accept donations but it is not required.  This is a great resource and we'll keep it going either way.

Last year we ended up with $48 more than we needed so this year our goal is $52.

If you would like to donate, please keep it to a small amount ( $3 - $5 ).  When we reach the $52 goal, I'll post a STOP update.  And any amount over the $52 will be saved for next year.  You can send a donation to me via PayPal to my email address.   Or send a check or cash via snail mail to:

Re: Tri EX W-51 vs WT-51

Kj6y

The tower are basically the same.  The T means it has the the ability to use the tilt over fixture.  The dimensions on the towers are the same.  The WT has additional added strength on the bottom section for the tilt over ears.  Both are excellent medium strength tower.
