Does this new model beep? I’ve heard complaints that beeping (mornings) and start/stop is annoying while she’s charging up enuf to run the fan continuously.

John... forgot... the diameter of the new unit is 10".  The old unit, 9".  It is also taller, esp. at the outside edge.  I had to relocate a block on my mast step plate to clear the new unit.  No big deal, but know it's not a plug and play affair dimensionwise when replacing the old style unit.

Happy to report that after half a day's struggle, I got the redesigned 4" fan unit installed.  This new unit is a quantum quality leap above the piece of crap most of us still have installed.  Has access to battery without any disassembly :)  Has ON/OFF   and IN/OUT  switch, even a cute little LED.  Nice unit overall.  Just slightly larger in diameter than the original.

Re: Nicro 4" Solar Fan

The new unit requires a 4 3/4" hole.  I had trouble with a trim sleeve I found within the opening, so the new unit would not slip in.  I had to painstakingly saw it into thirds with a bare hacksaw blade,  then pry the pieces out, along with gobs of 5200 sealant holding it.  I then sanded the hole back up to 4 3/4" with a drill mounted 2" sanding drum, then finished by hand.  Then, I cleaned with acetone, and epoxied the core end grain and exposed glass. A few hours later, I finished the install.  New unit MUCH improved quality.  The exposed solar panel is not accessible from the topside, and is fully sealed.  My old unit failed due to water intrusion from a degraded O ring that holds the solar panel disc.... :(

I planned on replacing it along with rebuilding the transmission and replacing the hoses. Also the log hose once the transmission is done I will pull the boat out of the water and do the log, check the cutlass, new zinc on the shaft etc.

I just mean if the hose is 1" you would want a clamp that starts at 3/4 inch so you don't just start clamping on the first couple turns, I don't know if there is a recommended minimum size for a hose size like 1" to 2" clamp for a 1 1/4 inch hose, not a clamp that starts at 1 1/4 inch which is the same size as the hose.

driving the shaft out using a punch or solid rod with the impeller securely supported didn’t work?   Strange.
Is the end of the shaft peened over as it seems to look?

If you can bite the bullet it would be best to get rid of that whole Rube Goldberg adapter setup.
By the time you buy a shaft, new seals, a bearing, and impeller to refurb the -07.......

Re: Oberdorfer water pump - impeller stuck on shaft

Ken,

Sometimes I cringe when I post things because of the potential consequences and answers to the question that I don't really want to hear. That being said, yes, there's marring/ scoring on the shaft that I did because of my efforts to remove the impeller from the shaft. I've still not had any luck in separating the two pieces. I think my next step will be to buy a replacement shaft and go from there. To confirm, the Oberdorfer pump we have is the N202M-07 GKC (I have a pic of the cover plate).

As always, I greatly appreciate everyone's thoughts and input.

There’s hose sizes across the spectrum so I wouldn’t say there’s a most for you - from 1/2” water lines to 1-5/8 exhaust.
You can look up the manufacturer’s OD based on what hose it is but If you add 1/4” to size and use the midrange if the clamp you won’t go wrong.  I hate overly long tails hanging out so tend to pick them per the exact hose OD.
Don't know what you mean indents to “start at” - As long as you have ridges engaged on the complete worm drive you don’t need any amount of excess hanging out.

5424 “Parts” below shows 15 psi, ditto M25/XP.

IIRC the cap SKamp sells for it (Stant) is 13, maybe 14 (CRS.)

15-ish is pretty standard I thought that 7 doesn’t give much added
protection?

Nicro 4" Solar Fan

Ron Waclawik

Well, my old 4" nicro solar fan bit the dust.  Replaced the battery, no help.  No obvious signs of issues.  Just dead.    So.... I ordered a new one from DEDENDER.  Wouldn't you know, the unit has been redesigned, and is an inch larger in diameter.... Also, the mounting hole has to be enlarged.  The main deal breaker is that the larger outside diameter bumps into a deck fitting up top (PO installed it.)  So, I'm returning it.  Question is:  would anyone know of any sources for old stock... before the redesign??

Re: ice chest drain

} for testing { 🤞

Lloyd

I THINK I used 1/2 OD but that was a LONG time ago. I had to put a wrap or two of electrical tape on it to tighten the fit, and made a bulge out of tape so it doesn’t slide all the way down into the hole.

Option- foot pump to the sink drain.

Re: ice chest drain

do you know the size of the hose that will fit into the ice box drain with the original hose still connected so the water coming in because of the water line hight, can be controlled? other than taking stuff off boat that has accumulated over the yrs, I see this as the only alternative. amazing how much lower the boat has gotten in the water..
any other solutions? inserting one way joker valve into the line?

Great info, what size cover most of our needs, say a 1" ID hose I assume you need 1 1/4"+ clamp, do you recommend 1"+ clamp or start at actual OD? is there a number of indents you want to start at on a clamp.

Good find at a good price. They are ABAs (Scandvik) that WM now carries.  WM used to sell AWAB brand but I think ABA is a titch better.  One thing nice w/ ABA is the mini clamps (fuel lines, etc.)

I've also seen ABAs on Scamazon for more $$.  If I need just a 10 pack I typically get them from HPS or Ultimate Garage (Steve is a good guy) -- otherwise get what I need wholesale for larger projects.

The hex head is, of course, a royal PITA.  If you use a 7mm bit in a multi screwdriver it will definitely end up under the oil pan and never be seen again.  Suggest getting a flex driver for these or with some ingenuity, 7mm nut driver insert, and epoxy -- dedicate an ABA multidriver to your tool bin.
