The answer is simple, always 1/8 audio MONO cables!!
Why the CI-V hardware is design around the 1/8 audio mono cable so if you start using stereo cables in most cases you will be ok !! BUT!!!  if a third party device is use or an adapter something you will run into the ring (second connection on stereo cable) being shorted to Tip (first connection) and if the device uses a mono connector then ring maybe in some cases put to ground thus putting to ground your tip and your CI-V communications. DO NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES, please always use mono cables for CI-V interconnections. :-P -- Only the Best ICOM, ERC and HRD
