Building the Steve Wittman "Buttercup" Utility aircraft.

You'll see what it takes to build each stage .
The Building Log is easy to follow ...
Even though my version might be slightly different , (0-235 Lycoming)
the basic tools and fabrication are what you're looking for .
.
I'd say the hardest part is ordering materials , parts & Hardware .
Before you build ......., buy a house near Aircraft Spruce & Specialty...
.

We all want to Fly FAST and Land Slow.....Steve Wittman solved the problem
The Buttercup was built as a UTILITY Hauler...for his wife ...to run parts in his early racing days ...
She named it Buttercup .

It almost went into production as a three seater, but canceled due to WWII (read the story- PDF file in "Links")

38-40 (indicated) Slow Flight , and speeds near 150 mph on 85hp
Earl's comments about the moveable leading edge has given folks a negative view.
My view is : can he make it perform like Steve Wittman could ?
Can he jump in Andretti's car and expect the same results ? (That was a stretch)
Look at the W-10 wing in EAA museum , Steve was making one like Buttercup , moveable leading edge
Maybe he would have used his patents and installed the streamlined retractable (enclosed)For his W-10
He didn't like hitting his head on the Buttercup hinges .( out and down = Cord and Camber )
.
(From the Buttercup Article by Jack Cox)
Steve checks the leading edge flaps on Buttercup. When deployed, a full span leading edge flap and a slotted trailing edge flap increase lift by as much as 100%, and reduce the stall speed by as much as 30%. This is simple technology that dates back to at least 1919, but is rarely used on lightplanes.
.

It will Qualify as LSA (No Medical)
