Burtonsville Garden Club BurtonsvilleGardenClub@groups.io
Group DescriptionThe Burtonsville Garden Club was founded in 1989 by a group of neighbors in the Burtonsville (Maryland) area who were a wee bit passionate about plants. We strive to improve our knowledge about plants, especially Mid-Atlantic natives, and the wildlife they support, as well as supporting the community (see below).
We meet 10 times a year on the 4th Thursday of each month (no meetings Nov or Dec) at 7:30pm. Meetings are held at the Marilyn Praisner Library on Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, Maryland.
The club's annual program consists of 8 meetings with an invited speaker; one meeting where small flower arrangements are made for Meals on Wheels; and a club social held in June at a member's home. In addition to the regular January meeting, we also meet early January for a lunch social at a local restaurant. We also schedule field trips to 'local' (doable in a day's drive) gardens.
The club participates in the Beltsville Garden Club's May plant sale at High Point High School. Other than dues, this serves as the club's primary method of fundraising to cover speaker fees, library room rental for meetings, etc. (members are asked to donate plants for the club to sell). This also serves as a community service, as it provides a diversity of plants at an affordable price.
We encourage anyone with an interest in horticulture or landscaping, whether beginning or advanced, to join us! Members are relaxed, knowledgeable, and very friendly. If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to send them to BurtonsvilleGardenClub@groups.io. We look forward to seeing you at one of our meetings.
