I have a predicament with an adoption I don’t know how to handle in BK7.

The mother  had one child by her first marriage. A second child by her second marriage and a child by the third marriage. The husband wanted to adopt the two children from the prior marriages, but only one of those two wanted to be adopted. How do I show that the third husband is the adoptive father of the child he adopted and his wife, the natural mother, is the not an adoptive parent?

To Anna Enerson

Currently you can make a Table of Contents for one report.  Descendant, Indented Book Report.

Perhaps you can email to me a sample of your Table of Contents that you make using Word.

Please send me a private email with the .DOC file attached.

Thanks.

Disregard the first email, I left the computer and little hands hit the sent!

I would like to know if it would be possible, maybe put on the wish list, to have a Table of Contents be made behind the programming as it does with the index.

I make alot of books, for my self and other's genealogy lines. BK is so full of great tools to help me do this. Of course, every book has the index to it. I also make a "Table of Contents" manually.  For example, on the ancestry report, I make the headings "Grandparents, 4th Great-Grandparents" etc. as a level 1 and then I make each person a level 2 group. I do need to change the font back to normal when I do this. (I am using word) so my Table of Contents looks like this:
5th Great-Grandparents
     144. Nathaniel Cutter .....20
     145. Mary Fillebrown ......29

The Global Search and Replace can not currently be limited to one event.

So if you globally change Locations or Dates, it is currently for every event.

Hi,

Is it possible to limit the search and replace option to a specific field?
Example, the « Born » or the Died, or Buried, only?
Thanks.

The Events/Facts grid has both Events (with locations) and Facts (with a description)

On the drop down list, there is a group of Events, then a group of Facts (like Occupation), then a group of Marriage Events, then a group of Marriage Facts.

Hi Jim;

Thanks for you help. I think I have been pretty well able to sort it all out. It gets confusing(at least for me) when you add an "event" that doesn't really have a location. For example, a caption such as Nationality which would not have a "location". Does the system identify the designated nationality(such as English, Irish, etc.) as a location? Or is there a difference? Am I trying to split the proverbial hair?

Thanks again.

From the edit screen: Reports, Lists, Locations with events, Other options, then type part of the location, Preview.

But if you just mean you've mistyped a location a few times, from the _main_ screen: File, Location, Change Location Globally. You can use F8 - and you can correct several mistyped versions of a location to one common one. No need to correct it for each person.

Re: naming conventions

Lynn Detwiler

In the endogamous Pennsylvania Dutch community in Central Pennsylvania where my father was born, this was fairly common for men, although I think it was often just an initial which has been expanded to the full mother's maiden name by later recorders.  At least my grandfather always said he had only a middle initial, not a middle name.  Local newspapers always included the men's middle initials in news reports.

Many large families descended from a small number of early settlers led to lots of intermarriage and double cousin relationships.  If I keep looking I can often find triple and quadruple cousin relationships with my DNA matches.

for instance:

Husband   John Jones
Wife          Mary Smith
Child       James SMITH Jones
Child        Mary Jane SMITH Jones

Was this a common way of naming at the time?  Or has it simply been done on genealogical type records and references to make it easier to track lineage?

This naming convention was NOT done by any of my ancestors.

I am finding that mother's maiden name was used in the early-mid 1800's in parts of England as a second name; which helps in finding the marriage of parents.     Also discovered that on some "out of wedlock" births the father's surname was used as a middle name for the child.  I discovered this with my own g-grandfather and his siblings.
