Solar Tornado

That long skinny prominence we saw near the N pole for several days last week – turns out it was a solar tornado. It was many thousands of miles tall. It’s gone now, but you can read about it today on Space Weather.

Hi All,

Here are a couple links for the solar tornado that was spotted by Roy over the weekend. Extremely interesting phenomena!

Thanks Rachel!  It appeared to be just a very tall, very thin spire prominence – at times it was so thin I thought it was disappearing.  Actually there was also another shorter spire nearby.  And others here saw at least the tall one – Kent and Ted, maybe others.  Next time we’ll have to make a louder announcement!
