I was just scanning the photographs of the conjunction on several web sites such as spaceweather. This is interesting in itself as I was a bit stoked last night and stayed up until 0130 in the morning. One thought from this survey is that when it comes to this sort of planetary thing the eye is so much better at capturing the moment than any camera no matter how expertly manipulated. Visual observing can capture the great contrasts and subtleties such as detail on Mars and the bright detail features on the moon simultaneously. Seeing was quite good considering the fast moving clouds and high haze. I only wish it had been totally clear but I think we were able to see everything possible. Photographers have to make choices as to what they want to emphasize and what they want to lose. With the eye you can have your cake and eat it too.
