Fw: [BackBayAstro] York River SP observing Saturday 29oct
This Saturday Night – 29 Oct – is the next open observing session at York River State Park.
Since the last night hike of the season was in September, this is not an outreach event (it will not be posted on the YRSP web site as a public event). Of course, if there is anyone in the park as we’re setting up, we will invite them to stay and take a look through our scopes.
After entering the park (entrance fee is waived for us amateur astronomers), drive to & enter the ‘right’ parking lot. At the back/riverside corner, you can take the “No Admittance” dirt road to the observing site where you can unload. If you plan to stay late, you can leave your car at the observing site … if you plan to leave early, we ask that you park in the lot.
Temperatures will likely drop into the 50s and possibly the high 40s by the time we end for the night – so dress accordingly.
Due to the proximity of the river, be prepared to battle dew. Consider bringing a lightweight tarp to cover your eyepieces and other accessories on your observing table. Those who have SCTs or other scopes susceptible to dew, you will likely need a dew heater.
We’ll observe until we get tired. One nice thing about this time of year, darkness arrives earlier (click on the hyperlink for sunrise/sunset times)!
Right now, the forecast does not look promising – a Go/No Go will be posted here NLT 3:30 P.M. on Saturday.
