Disclaimer for the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers Account Please read carefully Participation Waiver I hereby certify that I am either eighteen (18) years of age or the legal parent/guardian of the child or children who are being registered for those programs or activities designated in this online registration. I am aware that those programs or activities may pose potentially serious risks of injuries or death to their participants and there are inherent hazards and dangers present, seen and unseen.  I understand that the participant may be injured or die as a result of their negligence, the negligence of others, or through no fault of their own or anyone else, because of the nature of the activity in which the participant is going to be engaged.   In order to participate in said program(s), I, as an adult, or as a parent or guardian for said participant(s), assume the risk of any and all injuries to myself or the participant. I hereby agree to indemnify and hold Isle of Wight County, Virginia and its elected officials, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims for any injuries suffered of caused by myself or said participant(s)due to participation in said activity(ies). It is likewise assumed that I or said participant(s) will wear the proper clothing and protective equipment during said program(s) and that it is my responsibility to make sure this criteria is met. Is this a real document? I want to attend the event but not if it’s going to be so dangerous my life may be at risk. Are we at risk of being struck by meteors?

More than 99% of meteors burn up long before they hit the Earth, and even those that take longer usually burn up before impact. To put it in perspective, you had a higher chance of winning that $2 billion Powerball jackpot than getting hit by a meteor.

So, long story short, no. You will most certainly not get hit by any meteors, I promise. 😊 Besides, it’ll be a great time! It’s very dark out there.
