Sunspots today

If you want to see the Wilson effect clearly this morning is a good opportunity as several sunspots are rolling on or off the limb. There is a pair that is excellent for this effect rolling off. The Wilson effect makes sunspots look like an oval depression as they approach the limb of the sun. You also see faculae at this time as you are looking at hot granulation from the side in the valleys between the granules. They appear as bright white line networks close to sunspots in white light.
