Saturday 29 Oct: YRSP UPDATE
Troy Riedel
To Go or Not To Go?
Despite both the positive CSC & the Wakefield NOAA office forecast – it’s still cloudy.
Looking at the composite visible satellite image at 1851Z: (https://cdn.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES16/ABI/CONUS/DayCloudPhase/20223021851_GOES16-ABI-CONUS-DayCloudPhase-2500x1500.jpg), it’s The Achille’s Heel for our area: onshore flow (specifically right now a northeast flow). These are not thick clouds - just a thin layer - but overcast nonetheless.
There’s no update on the JCC Parks Outdoor Event Line – I am not speaking for Skywatchers – but since there’s no cancellation on the recorded line it looks like they’re [still] going to Upper County Park.
Since I live so close to YRSP, I’ll head over just in case as I know the Rangers are counting on our presence. But if I lived on the Southside – I wouldn’t make the drive to Wmbg.
Bottom line: I’ll have the park ‘open’ for us until sunset, and if it’s still cloudy I’ll pack-up and go home. |

This is the current sky condition near YRSP (actually right down the road from Upper County Park) ... promising considering what it looked like at 3 P.M. local but ...

The clouds are obviously parting here ... my first photo was a WNW view, the second a NE view. It's 25-50% better now (45-50 minutes later). I really think it will be clear by the time the Halloween Hike ends (7P?) at YRSP, but I know the sky is worse the closer you get to the coast and if I lived there and looked outside, well - I wouldn't drive from VA BCH to Wmbg.
As I told Kirby, the Skywatchers event is a different animal: people are going there specifically to observe. At YRSP, the audience will already be there - regardless - because of the hike. There's no harm in setting up just in case since I live so close. Sorry I'll miss you tonight Paul. Cheers, Troy |
