I was finally able to test the new solar filter on my telescope today. Heres a cell phone picture of the group.

I counted about 40 small individual spots in the large grouping (AR3112/AR3116 per Space Weather), and my seeing is a bit rough after 6 days of bad weather. There are at least 3 other obvious groupings – the sun is pretty active today.

WOW! What an image! Magnificent! And with a cell phone camera? Just imagine how this would look with a regular camera mounted on that eyepiece focuser. The below image is already worthy of getting into Astronomy magazine, or any of the others that showcase amateur astronomers' photos. One taken with a camera proper could be a prize winner. (Get your camera out, Shawn!)
And that's a great filter you've got there. I wish I was in better shape because I would have loved to gotten together with those who built filters with that new material you told us about, and built another filter for my 60mm refractor (the Black Beauty - Meade Polaris with 700mm focal length). My son's got all of my eye pieces at the moment, using them on a smaller, secondary scope I got some years ago, but at least he's gotten my grandson interested in looking at the night sky to see what new things he can find. I think the entire neighborhood heard him when he looked at a large waxing crescent of Luna and shouted "There are mountains on the Moon!" "Keep looking up!"

No worries about not being able to attend the workshop Dino. I'm willing to help you. Let me know the circumference of your telescope tube and your mirror. I can prep a solar filter and bring it to you for final fitment. This goes for anyone else in the club that has mobility issues as well.
