First Landing Fall Fest

George Reynolds

Here is the detailed information about the Fall Fest at First Landing Stae Park.  Our Point of Contact is Jennifer Huggins, Assistant Park Manager,
First Landing State Park 2500 Shore Drive Virginia Beach, VA 23451 757-412-2325 jennifer.huggins@...

"This event is occurring on our beach/campground side of the park around the main office building and adjacent area. There is much more open space there than around our Trail Center so I believe there will be several good options for your group. I am happy to show them the options before the event or they can pick a location when they arrive before the event starts, either way we will get them a spot that fits what they are looking for. We set aside a table and two chairs for each group that is participating and if more than that is needed we just need to know beforehand so we can make it happen. The event runs from 1pm-5pm and we ask community partners to arrive by noon so there is plenty of time for everyone to get settled before guests arrive."

"Please let me know what other details you need or if you or the other members would like to set up a time to see those locations before the event."

"Thanks,
Jennifer Huggins"

Matt,

I won't be able to participate in the Fall Fest as I will be out of town on 10/15. I do have the clubs Coronado PST scope that you can use, if you want. I have a dove tail plate that will allow it to mount to most telescope mounts. I will have it at the 10/8 Saturday SUN day and I can give it to you at the end of that event. Let me know.

Jim,
I can bring my scope and visible light filters, but I don’t have a solar scope.
I still have a few hands out from a prior event, but not many. I’ll check and see what and quantity later tonight or tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Matt Cook

Jim, we can do whatever we want.  Solar viewing sounds good.  We could even have a table and a display, if other members are there to help.

I will ask one more time:

Can anyone (or more) support this event at First Landing S. P. on Saturday 10/15 from noon to 5 pm?  Many of us will already be committed to the Mars Festival at ODU.

The link to the event is below.

If no one can attend this one on 10/15, I will contact them and let them know we can't be there.

Is there any member in the Tidewater area who is NOT planning to attend the Mars festival at ODU 14-16 October?   If so, here is an opportunity for daytime outreach at First Landing State Park (f.k.a. Seashore State Park).  It does not conflict with the ODU night event, except for the need to stay until 5, when we will be setting up at 43rd Street in Norfolk.

The event is scheduled from noon to 5 pm, and participants are asked to set up before noon and stay through the end.  They expect about 300 visitors, and will provide a table for exhibitors.

I have some NASA handouts and some activity kits you could use at the table if you go.  If no one can attend from BBAA, I will tell them we cannot participate.

Ya know George? There is something to be said for filtering requests as they come in.

Back in the day if something else was already schedule   the later one was denied or renegotiated. Heartless? Yes, but necessary.

This though means that someone must be proactive and review those request in a timely manner (as on a day or two) and leave the desire to to accept a request by the wayside and become realistic about your resources at hand. Which are not much.

Be proactive vice reactive

Just saying a friend George
