Here's a link to the ALCON if you're interested. We are just getting in the groove. Kate's all excited to hear the SETI guy. I want to ask Harrison if he still does auto body repair.

You’ll enjoy it Bill.  Seth Shostak is a great speaker.  Those that were in BBAA in the last century might remember a talk by him many of us attended at TCC more years ago than I’d like to remember.

In 2018, I invited him to Sierra Vista for a community event and was thrilled when he quickly agreed.   My club and the foundation that I’m a board member for collaborated on the event that we held at Cochise College in Sierra Vista. I, and a few of my club mates took him to dinner before his talk. He’s a very personable guy and gave a great talk – humorous, informative and thought provoking. It was a lot of fun!

Sweet.
Here's a pic of their club Observatory. A little over an hour out of Albuquerque. 5 to 10 mi. on washboard roads.

Nice sky.

I’m surprised they are even trying to hold a star party this time of year.  In my part of the Southwest, we don’t plan anything from the last week in June to the second week in September. You just have to always be ready to capitalize on the three clear nights you can expect over those 10 to 12 weeks.  (And be prepared to pack up in a hurry when “clear” turns quickly to “clearly horrible” LOL.)

This monsoon has been particularly bad. Average rainfall in July and August is 2.2 and 2.4 inches respectively. So far this month, I’ve recorded 4.45 inches – other spots in the county may have gotten more. My weather station has recorded 25,682 lightning strikes this month. August is likely to be worse.

Ted,

I didn't realize that Arizona got so much rain.  I remember many, many years ago when I was a kid in Pennsylvania that my Uncle Ed and Aunt Bertha and their two daughters Anne and Ellie, from Phoenix, came for a visit.  We had a rain shower, and Anne and Ellie sat on our screened-in back porch and marveled at the rain.
