2022 RMSS

charles jagow

I am at the Rocky Mountain Star Stare star party being held in Gardner Colorado. RMSS is hosted by the Colorado Springs Astronomy Society. They bought 35 acres about 115 miles south of Colorado Springs near Gardner Co. The star party is right at 35.6 miles south from my house in Westcliffe.

Apparently CSAS stopped taking reservations a period of time ago after hitting 475 paid reservations.

I arrived Wednesday about noon and sat under cloudy and often sprinkling skies until about midnight when the sprinkles stopped and sucker holes came out. I managed to get the scope collimated and finders aligned before the clouds took the sucker holes away.

This morning at about 0400 it had cleared enough I could get the scope uncovered and check out all of the visible planets, Mercury was tough, just a couple of fingers above the tree tops.

Hopefully the weather tonight will improve.

The two pointy peaks above the telescope are named The Spanish Peaks. They are actually some form of volcanic mountain, I believe the only ones in Colorado. Wish Mark was here to educate me further in geo stuff.

Miss you guys out there!

When I first read about the RMSS I thought to myself “Chuck will be there – wish I could be too.” Wow, cutoff at 475 paid – glad you got in.

Hope the skies clear for you – I’m sure we’d all be interested in hearing just how good they are. Miss you too – good to hear from you.

Oh jeez, I though you meant 475 dollars...........................

I know gas for 35 miles is NOT 475.00 yet
