[StarHeels] MASP has been cancelled for 2012
A lot of Back Bay folks have gone to MASP over the years, and some might have been planning on coming down after ECSP. I'm just floored he pulled the plug less than 2 weeks out. <RE> ---------- Forwar

I read it on the internet, therefore, it MUST be true! It also said the Moon will be as big as Mars next month...

software question
On Android, I'd have the following: Space Junk, Star Chart, SkEye, AstroTools, as well as Google Sky. All are free - try them out and see which you like best. I'd say SkEye is my favorite right now.

NASA Gets Two New Free Telescopes
I think I read somewhere that they won't get launched until 2018 or 2020 at the soonest. NPR's Science Friday had a good story about these scopes last week - you can listen to it on their podcast.

New 18"?
I seem to recall Kriege's wait times were around 6 months last time I checked, so about the same there. But yeah, your Discovery is about half the cost of the Obsession. Exchange portability for cost

New 18"?
What do they want for an 18" Discovery, just out of curiosity? I know you can pick up a shiny new Obsession without the DSC and ServoCat for $6700. That isn't chump change, but not obscene for a scope

Great shots Chuck. I was amazed how much detail I was able to see on those sunspots with my 4.5" dob and a white light filter. It was a great show down here in Central NC.

Yes, there is plenty of room for tent or RV camping. Here is a map view of the site: http://g.co/maps/h2bj4 You can see Kent's trailer in the clearing in the cedars - that is the main observing field.
