Dale,

Did you hear about the shirts in an NSN email or was it a yahoo group email, or did you hear about it on Facebook?

I thought she was just reaching out to club coordinators in hopes of promoting sales among clubs. She probably shouldn't use the NSN for those reasons, but at least it was astronomy related.
So, did this message go out to all NSN members or just the coordinators?
If she's spamming everyone, I can see how that's a problem.
I thought the shirts were cool, so I shared.

Thank you for catching that!

She falsely entered our email address as hers to spam you and we¹ve
blocked her.
I appreciate you letting us know. This is the second time it¹s happened in
10 years. I appreciate you catching it early before it reaches many more.

Understood on the shirt coolness, but more concerned about personal info being accessible .  we have NSN set to not show this info it is considered PII. They'd have access to addresses and phone numbers also 8f they have access to other clubs info.

Chime in folks if you got an email like this. The NASA folk need to know if there is a possible breach. they only just moved to HTTPS after I pointed this issue out.

Sorry just my daily work life coming out here.

The question I had was how can someone SPAM via NSN?  This is not the purpose of the system.  Completely unacceptable to be hawking your wares via that tool.  So how did she get a list of all members, was it just BBAA or all NSN?  Those club member lists and the emails behind it are only visible to the clubs coordinators, not even a club member can see them.

Images from recent SPs

Stu Beaber

Well, I would love to show you guys the pictures I took at the recent ECSP & SRSP. I finished processing and assembling them this past week end. My problem is the company that host my website has made some changes to the format and haven't got it right yet. When I click on "support" on my web site host, I get a message that says "OPPS, we have suffered a temporary glitch...check back later". If the pictures show up at all they are only partial pictures and it changes every time you visit the site with only fleeting seconds where I can add to or make changes to the site...

There ended up being 5 galaxy subjects and 7 nebula subjects (mostly planetary). One of the targets I tried (Sh2-136) is not a emission nebula at all but is included in the Sharpless catalog. It would probably require many nights of imaging to achive satisfatory results, so I left that one out as I only had 2 hours 15 minutes on it. Not near enough time.

Hopefully my site host will get it right soon and I can publish the results...I don't much trust Yahoo for anything anymore.

Stu

BTW, I've made the page (Latest image(s) taken) that contains the images "Hidden" as it is really a mess.

Well Mr. Lazy, if you break it down so the trip looks longer, it is only 30 min, and it took us almost as long to get to trips. don't fib, I live a street over :)

I'm not picky. I'll eat anything.
Would DDebs be too far of a hike for our across-the-bridge members?

backbayastro:

Today is our solar event day at the Elizabeth River Park, and it looks like it will be a very nice clear day indeed!  It will be a bit chilly though with the wind chill at about 45 F at 10AM, but that is just fine. Dress warmly and in layers. The snack bar has lots of coffee and hot chocolate to purchase :) , and super good chili dogs

See you there

Norfolk Night Sky Event Report

VegaGaze

Monday night's Norfolk Night Sky event at the Little Creek Library was cold and brief!

They asked the BBAA to set up telescopes for only an hour between 5:30-6:30PM to show off the night sky.

I arrived (with a 6 year old in tow) just after 5PM, and Jim Tallman and Chuck Jagow were already set up.

We—as planned—contended with city light and obstructions by buildings and trees, but we had the Moon, Mars, and Albireo to show off to the few library patrons that were coming and going.

I don't think more than 20 people stopped by our scopes in that hour, including library staff, and a good portion of the time was spent with our hands in our pockets, trying to keep warm.

A bit of a bust, but at least we reached a few people.
