Re: Congratulations on your BBAA Honorary Membership

Jeff Goldstein

Jeff,

We currently meet on Zoom (1st Thursday’s of the month).  Normally we meet at Tidewater Community College (JC12 Science Building).  I’m trying to get this confirmed so we can meet in person for the June Meeting.

We always record the meetings, too.  The last recording for May was posted on Facebook as well as BackbayAstro@groups.io

Here’s the link to our last recorded meeting:

Topic: BBAA

Start Time : May 6, 2021 06:54 PM

We’re trying to get more outreach events such as the Boardwalk Astronomy, but currently the Beach Manager hasn’t reported back.  I’ll keep you posted on that.

That Boardwalk Outreach that we hold would be a great news piece for WAVY.  I hope we can get it reinstated.

There are several other events each month that we participate in such as Norfolk Botanical Garden “Garden Stars”, and Night Watch at Northwest River Park.  I’ll post this email to our group:  BackBayAstro@groups.io   I encourage you to join this email group, also.

We’re all excited about having you as a member of our club.  Thank you for all you do!

Most sincerely,

Jeff Goldstein

Jeff,

At our last Back Bay Amateur Astronomy Club I made a motion to grant you an Honorary membership to our Astronomy Club.  You have done so much to promote Astronomy to our club and the community, we felt this nomination was very well deserved.  The motion was unanimously approved.  You assisted us in promoting the Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction a few months ago, and we were glad to share the event with the public.

Congratulations, and we hope you can join us for our club meetings on the 1st Thursday of each month.  We’re trying to go face-to-face at Tidewater Community College’s Science Building, Room JC-12 for the June meeting.  Failing that, we will continue to meet virtually via ZOOM.

AL Bio Messier Program

Richard W Roberts

I started the Binocular Messier program in February of 2017.

By November of 2017, I had completed 47 of the 50 required observations. That was the time I started getting obsessed with variables and I dedicated all my observing time to that.

I logged M53 tonight for my 48th observation. I'm going to pick off a couple more easy ones as they come up and finally put this sucker to bed.

Clear Skies!

Glad you found it! now it seems you need another "tool box" for astro gear.

I had looked everywhere for it, in the house, in the car, in the woodshop, in the storage loft (where it should have been), with no luck.

Then, yesterday, I "accidentally" spotted it on the cluttered stairs from my woodworking shop to the upstairs storage loft, half-hidden by other stuff that had not been put away either. I had set it on the stairs after unloading the car after that Skywatch, thinking that I would take it upstairs later, when I wasn't so tired. Well, I forgot totally, and it sat there, hidden, for three months! I really need to clean and reorganize my shop and the storage oft, especially the stairway up to the loft.

I am thankful that I found it, and it was not totally gone. I actually missed the dew heaters more than I missed the Pentax eyepieces, but I surely didn't want to lose my two most expensive eyepieces!

Re: Monthly Meeting

Jeff Goldstein

Scott,

I’m all set for the ZOOM virtual meeting.  No word about meeting at TCC, just yet.

However, I think we may be able to meet in June at the TCC Science building JC-12 as before.

I’ll email the dean and put the request in.

Officially, TCC will be at 25% capacity for Face to Face teaching.  And 50% capacity in September.  That’s good news!

Sincerely,

Jeff Goldstein (TCC Liaison)

I have reduced my prices significantly. Take a look all.

Another thing about Cloudy Nights is that it is run by Astronomics, and once signed up they give members a discount on Astronomics purchases.
