Here is the first image taken with the new (to me) ST-10XME camera. It's Ha only of the Seagull nebula IC 2177 taken last night (19th)...New filters should be here Thursday so maybe I can get some color...No flats used!!

My website is hung up again, but maybe later I'll be able to load some tech data for those interested...

Through the years I've gotten in the habit of storing all my files under one file on the desktop. I just drag that folder to the hard drive and update. Presto.2TB? oh my gosh. Remember when we never thought we'd fill a megabyte? Our first desktop was 1M. HUGE!
What 2TB? That should hold all the information in the world, right? Carpe Noctem

  Bill,
I just got out a 2TB external hard drive to do a backup.  Do you use the Windows backup, or some other system?

SKYWATCH - CANCELLED :(

BBAA President

backbayastro:

Due to poor weather conditions, i.e. clouds and rain we are cancelling tonight's SKYWATCH at the NWRP.

SOMEONE must have bought some new telescope stuff and when they opened the box, all the clouds came out!

Funny, I didn't see any clouds float out of my box from MOONLITE yesterday...

Nice photo, Ian.  The "Whale" looks thin enough to be a "minnow".  The dwarf galaxy next to it looks like steam or spray coming out of the whale's blowhole.

My laptop PC is about 5 years old.  When new, it was a real "screamer", but now it is slow as molasses in January.

My computer is truly flaky!  Sometimes I press a key or tap the keypad . . .  and I wait.  and I wait.  and I wait . . . for something to happen.  This PC has "locked up" twice in the past two days, with no response to either the keypad or the keyboard.  All I could do was hold down the Power button and turn it off.

Congrat’s to Chuck Jagow for his article about DIY dew heaters in the latest Astronomy Technology Today magazine!  Never heard of it?  This is an online publication covering the latest news and reviews of astronomy equipment (mostly).  And they have been and still are offering a free 1-year subscription (12 issues) to astronomy club members – just enter the word “club” in the discount code box of the subscription form.

Got a little time on the Whale and the Hockey stick last night. My guiding camera gave up early so not as much time as I would have liked. A very cool trio.

Every PC computer needs to have anti-virus to keep it from nefarious software.  It also needs software to cleans leftover snippets of code/malware that can really slow down and steal resources from your machine.  I highly recommend “CCleaner” and “MalwareBytes” both have freeware versions you can use.  I use the freeware versions of both and run them at least once or twice a month.

Great article Chuck!

BTW, what are “dew heaters” and what are they for?  Sorry, just being a wise ass.  But truth be told I’ve not powered my dew heaters in almost five years and can count on one hand the nights I wish I had.  Desert and all that.
