TED FORTE, President Emeritus of BBAA, will be presenting from his home and observatory in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Ted will tell us about the sample mission to asteroid Bennu, which is a mission of spacecraft OSIRIS-REX.
Ted is an honorary lifetime member and past president of the BBAA.  He currently resides in Sierra Vista, Arizona where he is director of the Patterson Observatory and an officer of the Huachuca Astronomy Club.  He is also a Solar System Ambassador.
Ted’s presentation, “Bits of Bennu” will describe the OSIRIS REx Asteroid Sample Return Mission and its upcoming sample collection event.  Launched in 2016, OSIRIS REx arrived at asteroid Bennu (101955) in December of 2018 and will return a sample of the asteroid to Earth in September 2023.
The OSIRIS Rex mission is a collaboration of the University of Arizona, NASA Goddard, and Lockheed Martin.  Ted has been an OSIRIS REx mission ambassador since 2013.
