This will be a straight out of the box build guide any optional or suggestions can be linked to, but should not be in this main description.

Getting Started

What you will need (Required)

  • uBITX
  • Soldering Iron & Solder
  • Wire cutters. strippers or knife
  • 12VDC Power Supply

What you probably should have (Optional)

  • Enclosure - Not 100% necessary, but most will like have one, see Ubitx Enclosures for more ideas
  • Low SWR Antenna for a specific band or a multiband antenna and a Tuner

Main Board & Raduino Assembly

Mount 4 of the 1cm threaded standoffs to the bottom of the main board so they act as feet.

Use 4 of the 1cm standoffs to connect the LCD display to the header board.

The header board plugs into the main board.

Power

The three pin power post on the board is located in the left rear of the main board (while looking at the display) and is labeled P1.

The three wire connector with Red, Black Brown wires mounts here.

The chassis mount power plug and the 1N4007 Diode (black and silver on one end)

Wiring Instructions 1

This is if you will control the power outside your Radio and you will be putting in a 2Amp fuse in the external power supply line.

  • Tin all the posts
  • Cut wires to length, strip bare and tin
  • Red & Brown solder to the positive (+) post
  • Black solder to the negative (-) post
  • The Diode is soldered across the (-) and (+) posts with the silver end of the diode on the (+) post.

Wiring Instruction 2

This is if you want the Volume knob to also be your On|Off and an inline 2Amp fuse.

  • Tin all the posts
  • Solder one side of your inline fuse & Brown solder to the positive (+) post
  • Black solder to the negative (-) post
  • The Diode is soldered across the (-) and (+) posts with the silver end of the diode on the (+) post.
  • Solder the other side of your inline fuse to one of the two poles on the back of the volume knob
  • Solder the Red wire from your power jumper to the other pole on the back of the volume knob (you won't need any inline connections if you have the full length of your original wire.

Antenna

The two pin antenna post on the board is located on the right rear of the main board and is labeled J2

The two wire connector with Brown and Black wires mounts to J2.

The BNC connector

Wiring Instructions

  • Tin the center post and the outer ring post
  • Cut wires to length (AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE), strip bare and tin
  • Brown - Center of BNC
  • Black - Outer ring post

Audio Harness

The audio harness mount is located on the front right of the main board and is labeled Audio1

To Audio1, mount one of the 8 wire multi-color harnesses and then connect the following components:

  • Volume Knob
  • 1/8" Speaker Jack
  • 2 of the microphone wires (connected later)

Wiring Instructions

Volume Knob

  • Label the harness Audio
  • Tin the three posts hanging off the bottom of the Volume knob & the Left, Right and Ring posts on the 1/8" headphone jack
  • Volume Knob

    • When looking at the display, the wires will be ordered left to right in this order: (You might actually have the board face down when you're soldering so double-check the order)
      • Green (Ground)
      • Yellow (Volume High)
      • Orange (Volume Mid)

Headphone Jack

  • Black (Ground) - The single pin on the chassis side of the connector
  • Brown (Speaker Left +) If you are looking at the posts (bottom) of the jack and the the input is facing away from you, this is the right most pin.

NOTE: In this configuration you can only use a MONO cable to connect.

Raduino Harness

The Raduino harness mount is located on the top right of the header board holding the display and is labeled P1 on the front facing side of the board.

To the P1 header, mount one of the 8 wire multi-color harnesses and then connect the following components:

  • Tuning Knob
  • 1/8" Jack for Key
  • 1/8" Jack for Microphone (2 wires from the audio + 1 from the Raduino)
