The author of Microcap is retiring and made the software free. It used to be $4500/seat. Versions 10, 11 and 12 (12 is the latest) are now free.

Yes, significantly better.
One very useful feature is the ability to tune component values using a slider for both frequency domain and time domain simulations.
Being a more complex program does mean it has a steeper learing curve
