Lakes On The Air?
All:
On my web site I asked the question: "Does a group for Lakes On The Air (LOTA) exist?" I got some cute answers, but none that answered what was meant to be a serious question. If it does not exist, I wonder why. With all of the "...OTA's" out these, why not? There would have to be some rules (e.g., the lake must be 100 acres or more, you must operate 50' or less from the water's edge, etc.), but it seems doable. The lake's ID might be its maiden head coordinates. It could be another way to get some hams active again and maybe even draw some new ones in. (If you do a POTA, take a small sign the says something like: "Ham radio in action!". People are interested.)

I could see that. Extra points from activating from a vessel underway. Extra points when wind over 15 kts. Wizard Island on Crater Lake would be some kind of weird multiplier I'd think: IOTA, SOTA, POTA, LOTA?. Aloha, Steve WH6ST

It would be a considerable task (e.g., making a web site, creating a database, admin of everything, etc.) but I think it might be a worthwhile and fun endeavor for someone who has those talents and a lot of time.

True, but there are a bunch more that are not. Besides, getting a "two-fer" wouldn't be a bad thing.

Biggest part of lakes is often they are parks or part of state or federal lands. There woold be redundacy there.

The Worked All Lakes award seems a tad daunting...

you must operate 50' or less from the water's edgeAt the risk of sounding overly pedantic, do you mean operating on a lake or from the shore?
