W0EB/W2CTX Latest uBITX software release #ubitx

Jim Sheldon

This software is for the original uBITX Raduino with a standard (NOT the I2C) display.
The zip file contains a complete, illustrated manual in PDF format that contains
detailed instructions on implementing this version of the software.

We have totally restructured the menu to make it much easier to use.  The Nano's CPU cycle usage has been optimized for vastly better CW (a minor front panel wiring change is necessary to use this software).  Split is working (you do NOT have to be in transmit to change the transmitter's frequency) and though not available yet CAT is being worked on. Not promising CAT anytime soon but we're trying to implement it and keep CW working right.  (Not an easy task with a Nano but we want to keep from having to change out the Nano for some bigger card). Due to an easy programming trick, the keyer's dash paddle AND the Hand Key/external keyer connection has been moved to the same wire as the SSB PTT on the Raduino's digital connector (the orange wire).  This is possible since we don't normally use the CW key or paddles when in SSB mode and we don't use PTT when in CW mode.  The menu item CW:Key or CW:Pdl selects whether or not the line is used for the hand key or dash paddle.  This requires a minor wiring change and either a short adapter cable to be built for the hand key/external keyer or a separate hand key jack be added.  Either way it's an easy mod.  This change gives the analog A7 input back to the guys wanting it for an "S" meter or power/swr metering.  The blue wire (A6) remains as the dot input.  Since we don't have to select a specific threshold voltage on A6 for dot/dash/hand key and just determine key up or key down, the 2.2K and 10K resistors are no longer needed and the CW paddles work MUCH better.

I posted the ubitx_V2_00R.zip file in the files section yesterday but there is so much stuff there that I'm posting the software again here to make it easier to locate for those who wish to use it.  Feedback is always appreciated and we hope you find the program useful.

Thank you Release New Version.
CW keying on MIC PTT is nice.(Impliments mine onto Ver.1)

I'm modified TX HAM BAND ONLY to function:void Check_Transmit(void).
It's need Japan Radio reguration.
and... Reg.1/2 must 40m BAND limits below 7200kHz,change BAND DATA.

It has just been called to my attention that there may be a bug in this version.  When entering the menu, it works fine for several iterations and then begins immediately returning to the main operation screen as soon as the encoder button is released rather than staying in the menu to allow selection of an item to change.

We're looking into this and will post a fixed file as soon as possible.

Anyone else using our software that can confirm this behavior?  Not sure Here.

Apparently the problem was due to a bad Nano on the user's Raduino - unable to duplicate the problem on at least 5 Raduino's now so it appears the bug report was one isolated case.

We have resolved the problem.  It WAS NOT a bug in our program, it was a misunderstanding of the way our new menu system works.  The PDF file containing the instructions goes into detail on the new system complete with photo's to illustrate the operation.

Again, there is NO BUG in the software.

Hi

I am CW only with straight key and am struggling to 100% understand from the release notes precisely how I should connect my key to use this firmware. At present I have the mono jack tip connected to the 'blue-4.7k-green' lead and it works OK, and I would prefer to leave it this way if possible (though use of the mic jack in order to free up the analogue port is tempting).  Could you advise please?

I will be fitting the I2C back-pack at some point, but for now I am still with the 'native' Raduino.

In the above I should have made it clear that my straight key presently works OK with my existing firmware (KD8CEC), as I have not yet tried the W0EB/W2CTX firmware, I might try it anyway but I don't want to start blowing things with incorrect groundings!

Is this software hosted somewhere such as github or bitbucket?

The only place it's hosted presently is in the "Files" section of this group.

Chris - If the KD8CEC software is working fine for you you should probably continue to use it.

To use our latest software, you would have to either ADD a key jack and connect the tip terminal of that jack to the orange wire from the Raduino's P1 plug (PTT) line (you can easily just connect it to the PTT (ring) terminal on the MIC connector if you are using the provided 1/8" stereo jack for the microphone jack.  If not, connect the hand key jack's "TIP" contact to whatever contact on the microphone jack you connected to the orange PTT wire.  If you don't want to add another jack, simply wire your key with a plug to match your microphone plug.  The key would connect to the ring and round terminals on that plug with the TIP (microphone wire) left open. Simple as that.

Thanks Jim, I'll have a go at that wiring. I have tried implementing your firmware but my key didn't function as presently wired. I like the ideas in your menu implementation but I did find it difficult to remember how to proceed at certain points, in particular how to get straight back to the normal tuning function after selecting RIT ... kept finding I was doing the wrong thing!

OK Chris,
Yes over-use of the encoder/function button prompted a lot of our changes as you have to keep holding it longer and longer to get to certain functions and the human timer isn't the best at times - LOL.
